  • Magic on the Osa Peninsula

"We loved our time at Casa Sonrisa! Because this particular house sits back a bit on the hill, I think we saw even more wildlife than those closer to the beach although the view of the Golfo Dulce was beautiful too. Case Sonrisa backs up to an area that could almost be considered a monkey playground! We saw 4 types of monkeys and were given an especially funny show by the spider monkeys! The house was very comfortable and we were thankful that William was able to provide an extra mattress and mosquito net for one of our kids. The kitchen was beautifully outfitted with everything needed for a 4 day stay. I am glad that we shopped in town and brought so much food with us from Pavones because the road to Puerto Jimenez was awful and I wouldn't have wanted to drive it any more than needed. The thunder and lightening storms were amazing to watch from the open area living space! We surfed morning and evening sessions and loved that we could just walk to Playa Pan Dulce and then follow trails to other breaks. I got some of my favorite surfing pictures of our whole time in Costa Rica one evening. The houses are fit with radios that can contact the owners, William and several of the local restaurants. This came in especially handy when one of our kids left his insulin pack at Lapa Rios. We were able to call around and locate the pack and then go pick it up right away! We will definitely come back and stay again!"

  • Little piece of paradise

"Staying in this wonderful house was an experience we'll remember forever. A large and open house with a lovely pool, right in the heart of the forest. And the caretakers, Grace and Juan, really made it special - Grace's cooking was a real treat and nice not to have to cook for ourselves all the time, and Juan was a great guide to the forest nearby. (We asked Adrian for a shopping list before we went which was helpful - and might be a good thing to provide to all guests) There is lots of wildlife walking right by the house - we saw a laughing falcon take a (harmless) snake just below the house, a Tayra climbing a tree, macaws, toucans and lots of hummingbirds and butterflies - even a turtle on the beach! Some of the fixtures and fittings (window latches, wardrobe doors) have taken a little bit of a beating from the jungle, but more than compensated for by the wonderful surroundings. And you should be aware that the sound of the ocean can be quite loud, which didn't bother us - but might be a consideration for others. I'd recommend a visit to Estacion Piro just up the road, and ask Juan to take you to the other part of Adrian's estate - which you might not find by yourself and contains some amazing trees. Really a nature lovers paradise and the pool was a real treat."

  • Simply Amazing

"I am writing this while sitting on the back porch of the property before we leave in a few hours. It is early in the morning and I am enjoying a nice cup of coffee while looking over a spectacular coastline vista. All I can say is WOW. It is very peaceful and quiet except for the chattering of exotic birds and monkeys in the trees surrounding the property. The property sits at the top of a hill located just the right distance from the water to allow a view of the entire gulf, yet being only a few minute drive away from walking on the beach if you are so inclined. Besides being beautiful, the property is comfortable, well appointed, private and safe. Yesterday my brother and I enjoyed a scuba excursion that included whales, dolphin, sea turtles, rays, etc. The day prior, while exploring the nearby area we actually encountered a sloth. The night before that we enjoyed a wonderful meal at La Pina Bruschetta in Pavones. Our decision to stay at this property was influenced by a local friend who recommended the property and the hosts. Overall, we are very pleased with this property and we intend to return."

  • Quiet Paradise

"My boyfriend and I stayed for a week in April at Kris' place. The cabin was clean and perfect! It had everything we needed to have a comfortable stay while in Zancudo. The screened in patio was my fave! hammocks and fans, an our door table. PERFECT! I was covered in bug bites by the time we got here so that was a nice way to spend time reading outside and not get eaten alive. The beach is steps away and the sand and water are beautiful. Kris has bikes you can use to get around town, there is only one road so that is all you need. She helped us arrange horseback riding trips, wildlife rescue trips and joined us for dinner one evening at our request because she was just so lovely. Kris made us feel right at home, from introducing us to her friends to inviting us to community yoga and setting me up with one lady to rent paddle boards to do a sunrise dolphin tour. We loved everything about our time in Zancudo, it is very, very relaxed here so don't show up prepared to cram a lot in every day. Bring a book, or borrow one from the lending library in the cabin, get a massage, listen to birds and meet the neighbours. We can't wait to go back!"
