  • Awesome people, awesome property, perfect location....

"This is a perfect base for an adventurous visit to Costa Rica! Elizabeth and Eduardo, the owners, live just below the rental. They were absolutely wonderful to work with. They helped us before the trip with everything from making sure our cell phones would work, to sorting out and making reservations for activities, to providing perfect directions for finding the place in the dark. Once we were there, Elizabeth and her family (including three very friendly loving dogs) very much embraced us at the level we wanted. When we needed help finding something in the house, they were there, but they were never intruding. Elizabeth was wonderful at being available by email whenever we had a question. Eduardo and Elizabeth invited us to join them for a bonfire for New Year's Eve, which was a great time. They are lovely people, and we enjoyed their children Cooper and Shane a lot too! The home itself was great! It has four very separate bedrooms, and one huge great room/kitchen area joining all of them. We were two couple and two single people, and we all had plenty of space and privacy; while at the same time there was plenty of room to work as a group in the kitchen, and hang out on the deck together. The house is only a few years old, and is in great shape. There is plenty of everything in the kitchen for you to use, and everything works. Because the home is on the edge of the jungle, you will definitely see lots of birds, butterflys, flowers, and the corresponding insects. This is not a sterile inclusive resort, but a very clean and tidy home on the edge of the jungle. Expect the howler monkeys to wake you most mornings, which we all thought was very cool! The driveway is steep and exciting as you come up the hill from Dominicalita. If you are from the country, it's no big deal. If you aren't used to challenging dirt roads, well, you will be fine but don't be surprised. Both for easy access to this place and for getting around, it is nice to have a roomy 4 wheel drive vehicle. The local people are also wonderful. Dominicalita, a couple km away, is a sweet little very local town where you can get basic groceries and lots of smiles. Basic Spanish knowledge is helpful, but not required. You can get to tons of activities within a half hour drive. We are all happy to endorse Elizabeth and this rental...we give it 5 stars. Mike from Michigan"

  • Natural oasis after a day at the beach

"Casita Uvita is a 5 min ride to Marina Ballena or to grocery shopping at the B & M in Uvita. We enjoyed our meals outdoors near the pool with overhead fans to supplant a breeze (bugs come at sunset and go away about an hour later). A swim at any time of day was a treat and the grounds are lovely. There is air conditioning in the bedrooms which make sleeping comfortable. We named the iguana, Buster, that appeared in a tree in a property behind the pool in the late morning. One day he had three buddies in the same tree. Several afternoons we had Toucan Two (because he appeared at 2pm) in a tree next door. The day we left he sat in a tree on the property and sang and called for a good half hour. The outside shower was a welcome addition, as was the laundry. Beds were comfy, kitchen well stocked for cooking, and Jaguar Mgt was attentive. We liked the location. There used to be a walk to the beach close to the property, but it would be a longer walk now. As opposed to the Caribbean side, our towels did dry, but if that is not the case in wetter seasons, the dryer works just fine. We liked the location. Bahia Aventuras (nearby) has great tours to Corcovado. We enjoyed several days at Marina Ballena($6 pp entry, $4 pkg), enjoyed a great local meal nearby at Esperahas, lovely meal in Ojochal at Exotica and a gringo sunset & band at Bamboo Room. Great location!"

  • Holiday family vacation

"It's not easy to find a house with a pool on the beach but caballitos del mar is it. The house is very spacious and sits just back from the beach near Dominical. There are three houses in the spot but with some careful landscaping you hardly notice the other two. The beach is just outside of the back garden across a small flat area which we later realized is a dirt road allowing access to the beach to locals. It was clear from the description that the beach is public so we weren't surprised that there were people there and with the landscaping you wouldn't know it unless you were down on the beach. The beach is beautiful, very wide and with large rocks that allow for pools of water at low tide. The beach goes right up to the dirt road and the high tide does too, so there is never any 'soft sand', it's always the semi wet sand of low tide which is why it would have been nice to have some beach chairs. It's not really a spot where you'd throw down a towel and sit for an hour (it's too hard). But it was great for yoga on the beach, long walks and jogs. The pool is terrific, but lacks enough seating for 6 (the house sleeps 6 at least) and therefore you can't be comfortable all around the pool. The outdoor table and chairs are not at all comfortable for any length of time (they're wood dining chairs with no cushion). The ONLY down side was the lapse in comfort as above mentioned (pool and beach chairs) and for example the bedside lamps in the master bedroom don't work at all. They've been jury-rigged so that you have to get out of bed to unplug the lamp to turn it off or on. This could be so easily rectified with some folding lounge chairs or cushions and a small investment in the furnishings. The beds were comfortable which is not as easy as it sounds. It may be the first time I find that in a rental house. Neil and Stephen were great. Very reactive and there to greet us and see us off (even at 6:30 am). There are numerous restaurants around and the recommendations from Neil and Stephen were all good. The activities they organized (snorkeling, horseback ride to the falls and kayaking) were all REALLY great. They recommended we get a car service from the airport in San Jose and use Omar at SOLID car rental for our car. GREAT choice. Solid delivered and picked up the car to our door and the 3+hour drive to/from the airport was taken care of. All in all an amazing time and impressive service."

  • Wonderful stay at 9 degrees north!

"My husband and I spent a very enjoyable week at 9 Degrees North, over the holidays. The house is beautiful, spacious, and well equipped. The pictures really cannot do justice to the view, which must be seen to be believed. We found everything we needed, including plush towels, comfortable beds, an excellent shower, fans, beach towels, purified water, ample storage space, games, movies, and all needed to prepare meals. The house was large for two people, and would work well for two couples or a family. Everything was spotless on arrival and following a mid-visit-cleaning. We have experience with four-wheel drive roads and did not find the road to be a problem; the 4WD Daihatsu Terios we rented was perfect for us. Trina (the property manager) could not have been more friendly, helpful, or responsive; communication before and during our visit was excellent. We absolutely loved the location, which allowed us to enjoy a new adventure each day, and then return for a swim in the pool, drinks, the sunset, dinner, and a great night’s sleep. Our adventures included trips to Nauyaca Waterfalls (which we hiked), the closer waterfall down the hill, Manuel Antonio, Marina Ballena, Hacienda Baru, Ojachal, and visits to Playas Hermosa, Ventanas, Tortuga, Dominicalito (beautiful, incredibly long, almost empty beach!), and Dominical. We ate lunch out daily - favorites included Roadhouse Deli, Tortilla Flats, and Cafe Mono Congo - and prepared dinner using items purchased from the BM grocery or Mama Toucan’s, in Dominical. (Tips: Purchase paper towels, bar soap for the shower, and any needed spices or condiments before heading to the house. Also, the BM on the far side of town, ~1 mile South of the first, has a larger selection of produce and a chilled wine area). We also had a wonderful dinner at Kura Design Villas, within walking distance. (Tip: Ask Trina for their phone number to make reservations). Every morning we enjoyed coffee and fresh fruit on the deck. (Tip: You can purchase excellent coffee beans at Sibu in town, and they will grind them for you; they also have great breakfasts!) We spent many hours on the deck, just gazing at the incredible views. We honestly cannot recommend this house more. This was one of our favorite vacations, and the house ranks very high among the top rentals we have arranged through Homeaway or similar (many!). If you are interested in this area and the size of the house works for your group, don’t look further, just book!"
