  • Pura Vida Costa Rica at the Casa!

"A busy family of five, looking to disconnect... and that is what we got! If your sick of fighting for a chair at a pool in a resort, or standing in line to eat dinner on a cruise-try this! This beautiful home was secluded, wildlife everywhere, great pool, balconies, comfy beds-and air conditioned bedrooms! (yes 1 is a garage converted-not a big deal) We live at the beach in the US, so we were looking for a mountain get-away, and Casa De la Montana gave us just that. Unlike the last review-we feel your in Costa Rica-so learn the language! Google translate worked just fine. No Oscar, really doesn't speak English, but translate worked for us. He was a wonderful, considerate man! Took us horseback riding, and kids on the quad. He has great tips-ask him! Magally (who walks 30 min. to work-give her a ride if you can) was wonderful. We wanted a vacation, so we asked her to cook on the days she was there-and she did, ask her for the Yuca stuffed with Bisteca! Esteban (he is also on the contact list) is an amazing chef. We hired him for the weekend, we asked for authentic CR food-and he did! He's a great guy, fun to hang with, and a great chef! We don't recommend renting a car. Just use the one at the casa. Fernan-incredible-worth every penny! He picked us up from the airport, took us food shopping, stopped to see the crocs, stopped for us to eat, and found the house at night-which wouldn't have been too easy! Brought us back to airport, stopped for souvenirs, and we were on time! He is a great guy, highly recommend his services! The people on the mountain were lovely... Steven & Saulio at Sky Mountain-the best! We've been zip lining, this was by far- best we've done-scary, high, incredible views! Tres Pilas-go to the falls. Bit of hike, but heah... you want the jungle-you hike. We saw monkeys, and had a blast. Jump in the middle pool, and stay to the left when you arrive, there is a trail up the side of the falls. We surf-go to Hermosa or Esterillos Oesta- find Jorge to rent boards from, he's just as you get to the beach on the right. Snorkled off a catamaran-Ocean King. Great service, nice boat. The road through town and up the mountain isn't the best-yes. But remember where you are. This is an experience like none other- enjoy it, take in the views, play your music, relax, swim, toucans & monkeys on the property... It's the best! Our kids 13,11,9 loved the wifi, lol! We will be back Claudia & Randy!"

  • Beyond Expectations

"There hasn't been a review since 2015 so I though I better write one. Looking at the pictures for Olas Hermosa when searching for a vacation place in CR I was a little sceptical if the view and place would be as nice as described. After settling I can assure you the pictures don't do this justice. The reviews from previous guests are correct - it really is hard to leave the deck (I am writing this while looking out over the palm trees sipping on an Imperial.) The studio is wonderful - everything you need to have a low-cost vacation (eating at "home" is no problem) and we were more than comfortable with three of us, even with the 36C+ heat. The beach in front of us is Dominicalito and is best enjoyed for surfing and boogie boarding at high tide (low tide exposes quite a lot of rocks but makes for nice beach combing or running). We printed out the tide table and organized our day around the tides. Other guests indicated that they could walk the beach from Dominicalito to Dominical but, looking at the rocks to the north I am not so sure how nice that walk would be. It's an easy drive but we were happiest enjoying the calmer waters at Dominicalito. We have been told that this has been one of the driest seasons ever, likely due to El Nino and there is a bit of a water issue right now. Today, if you are looking for a waterfall, Poza Azul is pretty much dry (there is a pool of water but only a trickle coming down the rocks). Instead, drive up toward San Isidro and pay the US$8 p/p to walk into Nauyaca falls - which are exactly as advertised - gorgeous and refreshing. We spotted many Toucans along the walk. Hopefully the rainy season will help replenish the water that is feeding the rivers and water table in this area. As others have reported Dave is wonderful (Deb is away in CO) and has provided us with everything to make our stay wonderful (if something isn't quite right just ask and he will take care of it) I just spent an hour this morning with Dave out on the rock outcrop on Domincalito beach swapping stories and enjoying the views that run all the way up to Manuel Antonio. We have met him almost everyday around 5 pm (beer o'clock) to share stories while cooling off in the pool. For those on their way to Olas Hermosa - you will have a great time (don't pack much more than your swim suits). If I come back to the southern cost in CR I will most definitely book into Olas Hermosa."

  • An incredible place for a vacation

"This was our second trip to Costa Rica and first time staying at Bella Vista 3C, Los Sueños Marina - Herradura Bay. The Condo and the property were first-class; it felt more like we were staying at a Four Seasons/ Ritz Carlton property. The pictures on VBRO don’t do it justice; it’s even more beautiful in person. Eric (the owner) was fantastic to deal with every step of the way and is a true gentleman. We really liked the fact that on the one hand we had all first world amenities but if you go down the beach in the opposite direction of the Marina and past the Marriott property and cross the river that flows into the ocean there is really cool bar with more of a Jimmy Buffet feel by the name of La Puesta del Sol, doesn’t look impressive, but food the food was great (it’s also an easy drive from the Condo if you don’t feel like waking). We went during the off season (October 2015) and it was great. Days were clear and comfortable and in the late afternoon or evening we had showers for a couple hours. Most days’ rain was light but a couple days were heavy with beautiful lightning shows. Sitting on the balcony watching the light show was incredible. Can’t wait to come back!"
