  • FANTASTIC STAy in Paradise!

"My husband and I and our 20 year old son recently spent a fabulous week over Christmas at Playa Lapa in Carate. If you and your family are true nature lovers wanting a remote unspoiled destination to completely unplug from the pressures and stresses of modern life, then you will be in seventh heaven. If you need air conditioning, constant entertainment, wide screen TV’s, hair dryers, a huge fridge and constant electricity look elsewhere. There is no electricity, just solar panels. We were probably over cautious with our extremely minimal use of lights in the evening as we really wanted our fans to work in the bedroom! The master bedroom was quite cool, but our son’s room did not have as much circulation and he did get bug bites at night. The description on the website is very accurate...but the pictures really do not do it justice. It is gorgeous and the approach to the house from the gate with its royal palms looks like the entry to the Garden of Eden. We did several hikes-one 18 kilometer hike to the famed Sirena Station with our own guide and saw the elusive and most friendly puma reclining in the shade, a napping tapir, a band of up to 30 coatis, collared anteater, countless birds including scarlet macaws, the Costa Rican coast guard (brown pelicans), egrets, hawks, eagles, owls, trogons, basilisks, peccaries. We also saw trees with up to a dozen scarlet macaws, sloths , magnificent scenery with a swim in a waterfall and spied the much feared Fer de Lance venomous snake-all with the expert guidance of Cristhian Jimenez, a great guide recommended by the owners. The beach outside the house is insanely beautiful, the sand is soft and velvety and the sunsets outstanding, but real swimming can only be done at low tide. Because the destination is so remote with absolutely no air pollution, the night sky is amazing!! We made our own breakfasts and cooked the occasional meal. While there is a gas stove, an outside BBQ and a medium sized fridge, I was on vacation and wanted to have meals at the neighboring eco lodges. We did not rent a car as we did not feel comfortable driving through rivers to reach Carate. We kayaked in the nearby lagoon and loved it. We heartily recommend Playa Lapa Enjoy!"

  • Awesome 2nd Honeymoon!

"We stayed here after meeting the previous owner on the beach during a short stay off of a cruise trip. She convinced us that we should look into staying at her condo next time we came to Roatan. We rented for a week and were well taken care of the whole time by Erica and Ron. The condo was well equipped and clean and nicely located. We used the pool often and enjoyed the lush greenery and all of the birds! We were able to use the house phone provided to get transportation and adventure whenever we wished. The food on the island was teriffic. We shopped at a local fish market and made a seafood dinner in the condo with the full stocked kitchen. The weather was perfect. We swam and snorkeled. I got to do my first SCUBA dive with Blue Island Divers right next door. Eric and his operation will take you on the best dive in one of the best reef experiences in the world! So happy with the entire trip. We felt very safe and well taken care of the whole time. Definitely would like to go back again!"

  • Secluded bungalow in the jungle, across from the beach

"This bungalow was perfect for my family of four (two of which were teen agers). We had plenty of space for everyone to sleep, live and move about with out getting on each other's nerves too much. But it was cozy enough that we had some good family time. There are many fruit trees on the property and much wildlife right outside the door. I loved the sloth and the monkeys, but was also fascinated with the leaf-cutter ants. Ron let us use the surf boards (if you need lessons, have Ron call Choco and he'll get you up and surfing in just a few tries!) and bicycles which was handy. We could ride the bikes to the store, to Peter's for breakfast, and also to the Guava Lodge to watch the soccer game on TV. (Yeah, there's no TV in the bungalow, but who goes to Costa Rica to watch TV?)It was a great place to stay for our family, and with the surf boards and bikes thrown in, it was a fantastic value. If I were going to Playa Matapalo again, I'd stay here without hesitation. (PS- Make sure you go eat at Peter's at least once. It's where the dirt road makes a 90* turn to the left and is just on the right after you get on the paved road, with an open-air dining area and nice landscaping. Fantastic cook - we ate 3 of 4 breakfasts here and dinner, too.)"

  • What an amazing place!

"I just got back from staying here for a week and it was fantastic. The views were far reaching and one could clearly see Playa Santana and Mag Rock from the back patio. The pool and rooms were clean. I liked that it felt secluded, but was so close to all of the amenities of Rancho Santana. It's nice being able to be the first to ride Santana every morning. I would recommend having your own wheels for this location. I'll be staying there again soon!"
