  • Tout simplement exceptionnel (Simply Exceptional!)

"With our 4 children, we came from France to visit Roatan. La Diosa was THE place to stay and we had a marvelous time there : the house and the garden are really wonderful, well equiped, with everything you might dream. The beach is near, and with the kayacks, you're able to snorkel on the beautiful reef in a few moments. Humming birds can be seen while you're taking your shower in the open air. The view is breathtaking. Beeing located on the east part of Roatan is really an advantage : this part of the island is more authentic, but in less than an hour you can access, if you want, the more touristical places in the island. Not far from the house, beautiful beaches, wonderful dives with "subway water sport" that pick you up right from the dock at La Diosa. Punta Gorda with its Garifuna joyful feats and dances is very near... And what made our stay really remarkable was the presence of Jorge. He is perfect in his role as caretaker : helpul, efficient, hardworker, always available but never intrusive. And we found he goes far beyond his duty, in the good sense : friendly, giving good advices, taking care of our security in every aspect, always ready to talk about Honduras and Roatan, showing our kids how to cook a traditional recipe. After a few days, though he was always discrete, we had the impression of being at home with a friend nearby. Jorge is really precious and added greatly to the quality of our stay in La Diosa… The best summary comes from our kids "when do we come back ?". And though it's very far from France, no doubt we also dream of it! PS : if you have a 4 wheel drive vehicle, don't hesitate to go far east, on the dirt road, to "La Sirena" restaurant : the view and the beach are amazing, and you've got the feeling of being at the edge of the world. Their fishes are delicious."

  • Great Place...superstar owner

"My friend and i have been traveling for 17 years and started doing apts in 2002 by chance, should have had the foresight to start VRBO! In all that time we have never had an owner more organized than we had for this apt. She is intensely organized and leaves no stone unturned. One cool thing is the guest cupboard which is locked so maids dont take what we all leave behind and rather we leave it for eachother...think extra coffee filters, sugar, coffee, olive oil etc. Internet is generally an issue in Honduras but at least you have your own router here...try off hours is all for streaming otherwise email etc is fine. The room has two bathrooms [one en-suite and one in the hall] and a very large balcony. I'd note you are better off in this location between the pool and the main building than over the pool as the pool can be very loud and it's nice to get away. take advantage of $10 water taxis to west end available at the resorts dock or grab someone right there to fish, snorkle, dive, stand up paddle etc. Was very safe and fun enviroment and the owner is a 10 out of 9!"

  • Unreal

"Look, I understand how someone could give this a three-star rating if they are expecting to be in walking distance from other stuff, need air conditioning, etc., but that is not what this place is about. Yes, the grocery store is 20 minutes away, but on the bright side, you are 20 minutes away from civilization in your own private paradise. My wife and I went with a couple of friends, none of us had kids, and we initially had certain expectations, like restaurants close by, internet/phone service, air conditioning, etc., but all of that goes away after your first couple of hours there. The internet didn't work, and I'm glad it didn't, it was an escape from everything. We actually forgot one of our suitcases, turns out we didn't even need it, just need bathing suit and a pair of shorts for an entire week. As for air conditioning, there was a constant cool ocean breeze all day and night, didn't need it. The staff was great, didn't get in our way at all, but were seconds away if we ever needed anything. We literally had our own private reefs right in front of us. You could take the boat out to the deeper reefs, kayak and drop anchor at some other reefs, or just jump off the boat dock and float through some of the most beautiful reefs until you reached the other dock, and then repeat all day every day. We never saw or heard any other boats or people, except for the occasional local fisherman who shouts up to you to see if you would like any live crab or lobster. Who needs civilization when you have this at your fingertips? There was a sound system so we could play our ipod outside, tv with dvd and satellite tv, so you could still stay connected to the world. If you are the type of person that needs to go shopping, go to restaurants for all of your meals, and needs to be entertained, then maybe this isn't the place for you. If you are looking for a great escape from the world, THIS is the place for you."

  • 5 Stars for location, 3 stars for the unit itself

"Absolutely love the location of this condo. Stayed in one of the other units two years ago but this is my second time at Villa Ocean Reef. The unit is spacious and comfortable. It is getting a little tired inside but who really hangs out inside on such a beautiful island? The drinking water and towels are plentiful and kitchen is pretty well stocked. Couches are comfortable if you needs to take a short siesta. Love Las Rocas right next door and being able to walk to the "busy" end of the beach then being able to return to the privacy of the of your own beach. West End is about a 40 minute walk and that is a neat little town as well. Snorkeling can be done straight out from the unit or across from Infinity Bay. Just watch for boats when crossing to the reef from the condo. My complaints on this condo are minor but are the same complaints I had four years ago. First, the unit smells VERY musty and I wouldn't be surprised if there is some unseen mold going on in there. Second, the bushes are too high and you can not see the ocean without sitting on top of a very uncomfortable fixed structure wooden table (probably my biggest complaint). Third, the small bathroom can be very dark and a clear shower curtain would be helpful to let the light in. Not to mention, it is a challenge to get your entire body under the shower. Walt Johnson has his name written on everything in that unit so i am assuming he is the owner. Hopefully, he reads the reviews. Bottom line: I would definitely stay here again but might check out one of the other units because of the smell and the view."
