  • Great place to make your base for exploring the island

"This cabana has all that you will need. The beds are comfortable. There is always hot water for showers. The fans in the bedrooms and kitchen/living room are all that we needed to keep a comfortable temperature in the cabana. We never needed to use the air conditioners. Drinking water was provided in 5 gallon plastic jugs. There is a selection of snorkel gear and flotation devices available to use as well a couple of hammocks to take down to the private dock. The main reef is a fair swim away. But between there and the dock there is plenty of coral structure and flats with turtle grass to keep the interest of any snorkeler. I saw lobster, conch, starfish, all sorts of reef fish and some baby needlefish and barracuda. I would recommend to use a boat charter to see the island from the waterside. There is not much to see from the main road except some great vistas of both north and south shores if you travel up east of the island. We used handsonfishingroatan at gmail dot com and they would pick you up as well as drop you off from the end of our private dock. We got to experience handline fishing for small tuna and barracuda as well as take in the beauty of the island all the way down to west bay and back. I would highly recommend them. We did the ziplining at Pirates of the Caribbean - that was a lot of fun also. I would suggest you note any days that cruiseships come in as they do tend to crowd the popular places and activities with their guests. So plan accordingly. Shopping is close by at Eldon's supermarkets. No point renting a car. Use the taxis and buses instead and travel with the locals. The only disappointment of the whole trip is the exit fee charged at the airport of US $46.20 per person. So for our family of 4 = $185.00 - but this has nothing to do with the accommodation. So don't be afraid, book it and enjoy your stay in Roatan."

  • Perfect home for getting away and relaxing

"We rented Rita's home for 4 nights. It easily accommodated my husband and I, our 3 adult children, 1 daughter in law, 1 son in law and our 19 month old granddaughter. The house is bright, spacious, well maintained and well stocked with everything you might need to make for a relaxing, stress free vacation. The kitchen is well stocked with cookware, dishware and some basic spices and herbs. Rita, as well as the management company, are quick to respond to emails and to address questions or concerns you might have before your arrival. The management company was waiting for us at the airport and showed us the way to the house providing a brief orientation to the property. The property management company overseeing the daily running of the place was very professional and easy to reach when guidance was needed. Francisco, Luca and Gail all speak excellent English and went above and beyond the call of duty when I inquired about having a chef come to the house to prepare an island meal incorporating the Barracuda our "men folk" caught on a deep sea fishing trip. Chef Dixie (dixlee_ebanks@yahoo.com; 9556-7566) prepared an outstanding meal for us which was one of the highlights of our time in Roatan sitting around the dining room table in this gorgeous house right on the ocean enjoying the island flavors of coconut shrimp, conch fritters, island baked chicken, grilled barracuda, fresh sauteed local vegetables with rice and beans. She and her assistant were kind and easy to talk to. They were prompt, professional and cleaned up after themselves leaving the kitchen in good order. Sandy Bay is a great location if you are looking for lodging that is away from the hustle and bustle of the crowded beaches."

  • There is nothing better than having the sand and water just feet from your front door!

"This was a very comfortable place for 3 couples. Each couple had their own bedroom and private bath, along with patio doors to access the deck. The house is located a short walk to the main road, where taxis would run frequently so all we had to do was walk up to the road and hail a taxi for any of our destinations. We went to West End a couple different times and just walked down the street. We shopped, drank and ate at many of the different bars, restaurants and street vendors. We went to Coxen Hole one night and went to a real local place for drinks and music and they adapted to us well! We tried to visit with the local people as much as we could. Most everyone could speak English but if they couldn't, they never made us feel bad for not knowing Spanish. Very friendly island. We did hire a couple young men named Rudolph Green and Chris Amaro, (both can be found on facebook), to give us a tour of the East end of the island. They were very friendly and informative. We got to hold the monkeys, we were treated to a local dance while we were in the Garifuna community of Punta Gorda and we took a water taxi to a great little place called The Hole in the Wall. We would highly recommend them! The property was as it was explained and Vanessa did a great job. My luggage was delayed for a few days and she even took me clothes shopping. She also shared her favorite Sashimi recipe for fresh Tuna. We went deep Sea fishing with Enry and we caught Tuna and Barracuda. When we got back, we hired a local cook (Shindy) to come in and prepare the meal for us that evening. Another nice feature was that most of the neighbors stopped by just to make sure everything was going good for us and to see if there was anything they could do for us. We all felt that the next time we come, we would like to stay longer as there is so much to see and do! Thank you for sharing your place with us!"

  • Awesome 2nd Honeymoon!

"We stayed here after meeting the previous owner on the beach during a short stay off of a cruise trip. She convinced us that we should look into staying at her condo next time we came to Roatan. We rented for a week and were well taken care of the whole time by Erica and Ron. The condo was well equipped and clean and nicely located. We used the pool often and enjoyed the lush greenery and all of the birds! We were able to use the house phone provided to get transportation and adventure whenever we wished. The food on the island was teriffic. We shopped at a local fish market and made a seafood dinner in the condo with the full stocked kitchen. The weather was perfect. We swam and snorkeled. I got to do my first SCUBA dive with Blue Island Divers right next door. Eric and his operation will take you on the best dive in one of the best reef experiences in the world! So happy with the entire trip. We felt very safe and well taken care of the whole time. Definitely would like to go back again!"
