  • Our favorite Caribbean experience

"We had a most enjoyable 10 day stay at Slumberland this March. We were in the east villa which had a great view with large windows and a deck out front. We were able to observe sea life right from our deck and enjoyed the iguanas and crabs in the area below us. Some highlights of the trip were walking back from town on the sandy road in the moonlight, taking the water taxi to Neptunes and spending the day there snorkeling and relaxing on their beach, snorkeling right from our villa, and exploring Utila town. The villa was spacious, clean and comfortable. There was some music that drifted down from Chepes beach at night, but the air conditioner helped mask it. Andy, the manager was very friendly and helpful. When a storm blew up and at end of our trip and the ferry to Roatan was cancelled, he arranged a flight for us at short notice and also found an unavailable phone number that we needed for our hotel in Roatan. We could not have done those things without his help. We hope to visit Utila again and stay at Slumberland."

  • Great oceanfront location, huge, comfortable house.

"We stayed with Sue (owner) 4 years ago in a house across the street. This time we decided we'd like to try her ocean front home. The place is fantastic. Far enough from town to be out of the hustle/bustle, but a quick golf cart ride to get there. The public beach is right up the road, and right down the road is a little pier bar with great snorkeling. Easy ladder access there and a nice sun deck. The house itself is very spacious, the kitchen well outfitted. We cook a lot and it had everything we needed. Two super large bathrooms and two large bedrooms, each with GREAT a/c. One bedroom even has a king and a queen bed in it, and it still feels huge. Views can't be beat. Looking out over the water, you can see the mountains of the mainland. There are butterflies and humming birds in the bushes. The GIGANTIC wrap around deck has plenty of chairs and a couple of hammocks to enjoy the breeze and the ocean which is literally a few feet from the house. There is a washer and dryer in the room under the house, and a nice Weber gas grill as well. The owner is VERY helpful, and a delightful person. Her "handyman" Angel is also awesome and will help you with anything and is available any time. He'll pick you up at the airport, or he will deliver your rental golf cart there, and meet you, so you can follow him to the house. He is even happy to wait with you if you want to grab groceries on your way to your island paradise home. Once there, if you have any questions or problems (we couldn't figure out how to light the oven), just use the supplied cell phone to give him a call. Utila is not for everyone. There are no Hiltons or Marriotts, no 5 star lodgings or restaurants. But you WILL find delicious inexpensive food in numerous funky places. Do not come here if you want the upscale life. DO come here if you want very friendly people, snorkeling right from the beach, inexpensive diving and a sense that, in some places at least, all is right with the world. Especially at the wonderful Round House at Blue Lagoon. Thanks for your hospitality Sue! We love it here. We will be back again for sure."

  • I'll definitely go back

"Awesome place, great and very friendly hosts. Very clean and very comfortable house. The pool is only a few steps away from the door which makes it perfect for when you just want to jump in. The hosts live on the second floor which at first we were worried that they were going to get upset from our loud music, but... Not at all. They are veeery friendly, almost like family and very helpful whenever you have any questions or need help with anything. Taxi is less than $2 dollars per person. FYI.. if you take a taxi anywhere, and you have to make a stop along the way, the driver will charge you double the rate, per person. So try to negotiate it before you get in. Next time I go to Utila, I'll definitely stay at Laguna Vista with Tony and Jo."
