  • All good except for the Property Manager, Sam.

"Sam was emailed that 6 people were arriving at the Costa Esmeralda Airport. He was to arrange transportation to San Jorge. He sent a taxi that would n't fit 6 people. As a result we were delayed while waiting for a second taxi. When he met us he was rude and denied receiving an email regarding 6 people. I later confirmed that I had sent the email to him. He is a blowhard burnout and doesn't deserve to be associated with such a wonderful property. DTMF."

  • Home Away From Home

"The Sea House has everything you and your friends need to spend a few great days together enjoying the sunset, beautiful weather, and tranquil setting. Eddy and Marina are always around to help you when you have a question, need advice, or get hungry for her great cooking (or just want help firing up the grill). You will truly feel like you are in your own vacation home, because Rose has taken the time to put many special touches around the Sea House, constantly making improvements (we were some of the first to enjoy new hammocks and a big beautiful granite counter-top and copper sink in the kitchen). The grounds are ample and there are several wonderful lounging spots around the home inside and out to enjoy the views with a group. That also allows you to find quiet spots to read, or do a little work, if you need some extra solitude at times. Everyone is super friendly, especially the security guard Jack, who you'll be forgiven for thinking is your best friend while you are there. The house feels very solid, practically like a fortress as it weathered the brushing of hurricane Otto while we were there. A lot of rain that night and occasional howling winds, but otherwise the next day you wouldn't have even known a hurricane passed. Now, you're located on the west coast, so there probably would never be any serious hurricane worries, but even if one passed directly overhead, I'd be surprised if it could put a dent into this strong house, it's solid. It's also a great jump-off location for this region full of their best beaches and great sights. We drove here from Managua, so drove into town whenever we went, but you could easily walk it in 15 minutes. It's a bit steep at the last spot up to the house, but the neighborhood is scarcely populated and the house sits on a perfect veranda overlooking the cove. The town has a lot of surf shops, small shops (pharmacies, little groceries, etc.), and quite a few restaurants. We didn't eat out as much as we usually do because we felt so relaxed around the house. I did go pickup some fresh fish from the port, it was very fresh and reasonably priced. The town still has that small town feel, even though you can find many of the conveniences you'd like, including a great chocolate shop complete with fantastic chocolate cake. We had Thanksgiving dinner here, cheated a little by buying rotisserie chickens at Pali, but also all the ingredients to make our own amazing dishes. Like I said, home away from home."

  • Heaven on earth! (Seriously)

"My four girlfriends and I all started crying when we walking into Bella Vista and out onto the deck. That should be enough of a review, but I'll continue. It only got better from there. NicaRetreats is a perfect combination of remote and wild, sultry and simple, and with all the creature comforts you could want. Bella Vista is the ideal spot - perched over the ocean, 4 minute walk to one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever been on, and steps from Aqua Resort yoga, restaurant and spa - and all serviced by the most lovely, gracious, sweet staff you've ever met. The kitchen is spacious and well appointed, furnishings are comfortable, beds are really comfy, there was hot water for 5 women showering, and the outdoor shower is like standing under a waterfall. The plunge pool is essential and wonderful, as are hammocks to nap in the breeze and the meditation platform I used daily. There's a huge outdoor grill/oven. There is a house on either side (at a distance) and the landscaping is so thoughtful that there is complete privacy and you really feel like you're on the edge of world all alone (you kind of are). Octavio and Veronica feel like family now, they are amazing and attentive and sweet. They were there in an instant if we needed anything and always available via email. Conchita cooked us a delicious feast on my 50th birthday and the other Veronica gave us master massages. If for some reason you want to leave the area, Octavio can arrange for a ride there. Megan and Mike were there at the same time and were full of tips and restaurant recommendations. There were 5 of us so we each had our own bedroom; the house could easily sleep 5 couples/10 people. There is wifi that is surprisingly reliable given where you are; I almost wished there wasn't. The high ceilings and open plan made this the perfect chill out tropical rental. And the flora and fauna are mesmerizing. Can you tell I had the time of my life? I'm planning my return next year!"
