Perfect for families! Best in Bocas!
"Our stay at Lucas and Gloria's place was more than amazing!! We decided to make a last minute trip to Bocas from Puerto Viejo. We planned to stay for only 4 nights, but loved it so much, we had to extend to a week, and then really wished we had time for a month or two. Lucas and Gloria were easily able to accommodate our family of 5 and they were such wonderful hosts. The house was very clean, everyone was comfortable and we had plenty of space. Our kids absolutely loved it here! The hammock in the living room was a hit with everybody. We got to see monkeys up close every day, and a lot of cool birds we had never seen. One of our favorite parts were the coconut trees! We absolutely loved the fresh coconut water and coconut meat every day. And to be able to get fresh eggs from the hens was great as well. We were also thankful that we were able to do our laundry when we needed. We loved the location- far enough from town so we weren't in the middle of parties and crowds, but close enough to get there easily when we needed to. Lucas also arranged for a boat tour with a local guy and Gloria called a taxi for us when we needed to leave. They had great advice for us on beaches and cool local spots to go to. We definitely got a lot more out of our stay than we would have in a hotel! So thankful that we found this gem!"

"We enjoyed staying at Tera's home. It was comfortable with a huge porch and wildlife all around us. There is one large bedroom with a very comfortable bed. There is a smaller bedroom with bunkbeds. The living room and kitchen are plenty big for a small group. It would be nice if they could stock salt and pepper and perhaps sugar so you don't have to buy it. Lots of towels available which was very nice and appreciated. I thought the shower was fine and the water got very hot if you wanted it to get hot, my friends thought it could have a little bit more water pressure. No one had any real complaints though! We felt very safe there.
You are really in the wilderness out here which we enjoyed. We saw howler monkeys outside in the trees right behind the house. One day it rained very hard and we saw a caiman in the water below the bedroom window (2nd floor). So cool. Javier even killed a poisonous snake in our driveway. This is not a complaint. We were happy to be in a natural environment. I say this because if you are bringing children, I would stay with them in the yard just to be careful. We didn't get to see the sloth but we looked for it. The house is about a 5 minute taxi ride into town. You could walk into town but we didn't quite feel comfortable walking down the road because of the cars, but several locals were walking. You can walk the other direction and go over to a little beach place called Skully's. To go to a big beach, you will take a taxi into town and then hop on a water taxi, or you will take a taxi about 30-45 minutes (round trip was $35) then a water taxi.
Javier was attentive, polite, friendly and helpful. He can call the taxi's for you and help make arrangements for trips if you like - this was very helpful. We were on a "girls trip" and we are well-traveled and independent. He checked in on us a couple times a day. Personally, we wanted a little bit more space from Javier, but we understand he was trying to be helpful and make sure we had a good visit. He is a very nice gentleman.
All around great location, great house, great people! We had a very wonderful, amazing trip and this house was perfect for us. We appreciate Tera letting us stay here."

"If you’re looking for a relaxing spot to enjoy the jungle and the beach yet still be within walking proximity to town then look no further than Casa de K! As you drive down the road leading to the house, you’ll notice the lush forest on your left and beautiful waves crashing on your right. The house itself is enveloped in beautiful native foliage inviting to many tropical birds that you're sure to enjoy (binoculars and cameras are a must). Howler monkeys frolicked among the trees bordering Casa de K...we heard them almost daily and watched them from the back deck multiple times during our week-long adventure. My favorite was the day we caught glimpses of a baby howler monkey being carried on its mother's back. Such a sweet moment to see and a lasting memory for sure! A few of the standout moments from our time in Bocas and at Casa de K: island-hopping on water taxis, visiting various beaches: (Red Frog, Paunch, Starfish, and Bluff), snorkeling at the blue coconut, relaxing in the hot pools, the botanical gardens, howler monkeys and their offspring, toucans, hummingbirds, parrots, sloths, the tropical flowers, jellyfish, starfish, watching surfers do their thing (while drinking coffee/having breakfast on the front deck), the unbelievable weather (accompanied by a few thunderstorms and rain that cooled us off and put us to sleep as it danced upon the metal roof), amazing dinners in town at El Ultimo Refugio and Bluff Beach at The Hummingbird. Thank you so much for welcoming us into your home, Kristin. We were sad to leave and look forward to visiting again. It was truly a vacation of a lifetime!"

"We not only loved the place, we made a new friend (well, actually lots of them - not just Sandi but her pets and all of the Monkeys, birds, Iguanas, etc.). We loved being so close to the Rain Forest. We watched "Iggy" the Iguana climb the 30 foot tall avocado tree to eat avocados, there were butterflies and humming birds everywhere. Monkeys to watch every day, right in the back yard. Fantastic! Sandi has great dogs that we loved and even a cat that stayed right outside our door and was the friendliest cat I've ever met.
The location was perfect. Close enough to town to make it really easy to get back and forth but not so close that you hear any of the music or parties plus close to beaches. Right between the water and the rain forest. How can you top that?
Sandi started our stay by taking us to the only Irish Bar in town for St. Patrick's day and introducing us to some of her great friends. people that could give us some great insight into the area. We then went exploring on our own and had a ball. Sandi sent us to some good places to get dinner and to buy local groceries. She also arranged some great trips with people she knew (which helped a lot because when someone takes you to an island and says that they will come back and pick you up at 4 pm - you really hope that happens, and it did! He was there ten minutes early).
I would recommend Sandi and her place to my closest friends, with no hesitation, the way that she built the house is genius, with her living in the upstairs and two one bedroom apartments below. We had plenty of room to relax, a full kitchen with pans, dishes, etc. and an air conditioned bedroom. We are thinking about retiring in Panama and if we are able to pull that off, we will definitely spend more time with our new friend, Sandi."
