Super Mario

Mario met us as we departed our boat shuttle. The next morning he took us for a great walk with so many birds. We saw howler monkeys, capuchin, agouti, toucans, aracaris, tons of tanagers, hummingbirds, parrots and so many more species just at the house! Mario put a banana in the bird feeder and we watched toucans, aracari and tanagers eat! Super Mario is an excellent host showing us the ginger, turmeric, bananas, plantains and cocoa growing in his yard! Great place for a couple or family of three.

Amazing Stay

We all loved our stay! Mario greeted us when we arrived to show us around. He also walked us to meet up with our tours two of the mornings, which was very helpful. He would also point out various animals on the property when we would see him. Him and Nichole were both very responsive to any communication, questions, recommendations, etc. The highlight of our stay was sitting on the balconies and watching the monkeys. We saw white face capuchins and woke up to howler monkeys one morning. We also saw various birds, lizards, bats, and more. The house is only a quick walk away from the town and the beach, which made the location extremely convenient. Staying here was a great start to 2024, and would recommend to anyone visiting Drake Bay!

Beautiful Slice of Heaven

Casa Nirvanita is a very special place! It's set back into the jungle yet steps away from the beach. It is both relaxing yet exciting to be so close to the wildlife of the jungle. Beauty is everywhere you look from the breathtaking colors of the flower all around to the different shades of green in the jungle, to the quiet sandy beach. Our favorite part was hearing the pounding surf of the ocean wherever we were in the house! Clara & German were so kind & helpful. They are both sweet souls, & it's evident they love their home & wanted us to feel the same. & we did fall in love with it! They set up our excursions for us & made sure we had everything we needed. They were close by when we needed something but not so close we felt smothered. The house was equipped with everything we needed for the 5 nights we were there. We were picked up at the airport & taken to the store to get our groceries for the week. It was easy & worked out well. It was hard to leave, it was such a memorable week. We will try to bring some of the restful, peaceful time we had there back with us! Thank you German & Clara for sharing your beautiful home with us & for being such thoughtful hosts! We will not forget you!

4 nights at Scarlett House

We are now on day 12 of our 15 day Costa Rican vacation and Scarlett house was days 3-7. Carate is a bit more difficult to get to than many other locations but honestly that is part of the fun and excitement and though they are improving the roads it kind of saddens me because this feels like one of the world's few last remote and wild places. Justin was awesome in helping me prepare for the journey and answered my numerous questions as the date got closer for the trip for me and my 3 teenage kids. He also checked in a few times to make sure all was good. Erick, the caretaker was amazing, great guy, really knowledgeable about the area and it's wildlife, always friendly, fun and helpful. He is also a certified guide for Corcovado park which is a must do if coming here. The wildlife here was more abundant and varied than any other part of CR we have visited and Erick helped us see even more. We saw all 4 species of monkey on and off the property, sloth, agouti, paca, an anteater walked right in front of my kids in the park, saw peccaries, a deer, lots of coatis, kept trying to see tapirs that visit the garden outside the house late ate night with no luck but we did catch one on my wildlife camera! We saw many Scarlett macaws, parrots, turkey and king vulture, owls. a 7 foot boa, many species of frog( highly recommend the night walk) black hawks, a small crocodile in the park and many beautiful birds and butterflies. One great thing was literally NO mosquitoes! Pretty comfortable weather at night which is nice because all the windows are just covered in screen which at first concerned me but I came to love this, especially in the morning, you wake up early to howler monkeys, macaws and all the other sounds of the forest. Aside from all this, the place felt like our own, especially with Ericks help. My kids even commented on how this place compared to the hotels felt like a home away from home, for me it was a place of peace and retreat and we already miss it:)

A slice of decadent heaven in the jungle

We went diving with sea turtles, manta rays and dolphins at a nearby island. Ate fresh Dorado right off the boat, paddled up a river mouth in canoes, jumped off rocks into freshwater pools and went on a hike through a rainforest national park with an expert and experienced guide. Explored untamed and wild beaches in the very near proximity to the resort. I think my favorite part was horseback riding through the jungle with my family and kids along a beach path, with monkeys, pesotes and scarlet macaws at every turn. Or wait, maybe my favorite part was getting a massage while listening to the sounds of the jungle and the tropical rain while watching wild pigs wander around happily. Or wait, maybe my favorite part was the hot tub and three level infinity pool with fresh fruit platters and cocktails. Or wait, maybe it was the beautiful architecture and stunning attention to detail of the accommodation itself, along with great air-conditioning and nice bathrooms. Or wait, maybe, just maybe you should check it out for yourself because this is what you've been looking for....if you're waiting for a sign, this is it :)
