  • Dordogne Valley Chateau

"I cannot say enough great things about this house. We loved it, loved it, loved it! Our chateau in the Dordogne Valley. It was a perfect, magical house. The owner, was absolutely wonderful to work with. She was kind, generous, and interested in making sure everything went well for us. She also speaks English fluently. You can tell she takes pride in this wonderful house and she wants her guests to enjoy it to the fullest. We have rented houses and apartments around the world and we have never been as warmly welcomed as we were by the owner. We were an extended family group of 12 people visiting from the United States. We could have easily had 8 more people in the house without any problem. Every bedroom in the house has its own shower (or shower/tub combo) and a sink. 4 of the bedrooms also have their own toilets. There are two more toilets in the main hall on the floor with the main bedrooms. There is also a toilet on the ground floor. None of the bedrooms are on the ground floor. Each end of the house has a large tower bedroom that is above the floor with the main bedrooms. The covered/heated pool is magnificent. Our kids used it almost every day. It is very clean and well cared for. The fact the pool is covered was especially helpful as several days we had rain – but since the pool was covered we could still swim! We feel the pictures make it appear smaller than it is. All the rooms are larger than they look. The kitchen is large. The living area is large and comfortable. We had plenty of space for everyone with lots of space to share. The kitchen is wonderfully equipped. The wifi is good. The beds are wonderful and comfortable. The setting of the house is truly beautiful. It is on a very large property. The flowers are magnificent. The Dordogne River travels right along the edge of the property. We walked into the little town every morning for our fresh baguettes, croissants, and other splendid French pastries. We used this house as a base to explore the wonders of the Dordogne Valley. Every town is picturesque. Every castle is amazing. Tons of history. Prehistoric Cave Art all around! Cliff dwellings! The medieval town of Sarlat is 20 minutes away with its big market with foie gras, walnuts, and truffles and endless other specialties! Domme itself is a magnificent bastide town with the best view of the Dordogne Valley. The food all over the region is amazing. We would not hesitate to return again to this same house."

  • Amazing stay in an amazing land

"We had a wonderful stay at Cro Bique this past July. The house is very comfortable and the hosts were extremely pleasant and helpful. Despite us being several hours later than we expected (we didn't get there until around 9 PM), Ofer was waiting at the house for us with a smile and a helping hand to unload the car and get everything inside. He gave us a tour of the house and left a bottle of wine and some items in the fridge for breakfast. He also gave us a valuable piece of information when he recommended going to the outdoor market at Saint Cyprien the following morning! But if you miss the market in Saint Cyprien, don't worry - nearly all the surrounding towns have outdoor markets at least once per week, so you're sure to have other opportunities. Anyway, the house is lovely, and has everything you would need. Coming from America with our king sized beds, we were a little worried about the bed size. But it was not a problem! The mattress in the master bedroom was plenty big (I'd estimate somewhere between an American king and queen in size), and my wife and I didn't bump into each other at all while sleeping. Mattress was comfortable and did not sag. Two of our kids slept in the kid's room, which has two twin sized beds. Our 3rd kid got a room to herself, with a 140 cm bed, which is huge for a single kid or adult, but may be a little tight for 2 adults. The bedrooms are not huge, but they are comfy and clean. We were there during a major heatwave - Tuesday got up to 100 degrees F! The stone house stayed fairly cool, but if I could have made one wish for the house, it would have been for a portable AC unit, just for the very hottest of days. Most of the time it was not necessary. Opening the windows in the evening brings in cooler air. We were shocked at first that the windows don't have screens! If we slept with the windows open and no screens at home the mosquitoes would turn us into ShrinkyDinks overnight. But not at Cro Bique! Even with the windows wide open all night, we did not get a single bug bite. Moths might fly in, attracted to the light, but they fly back out again when the lights go out. All in all the house is wonderful. You'll be renting half of a dup, but the folks in the other half were very quiet and we barely knew they were there. We had a really REALLY great time and look forward to coming back some day. Thanks Gabriella and Ofer - it was wonderful to meet you!"
