Recent Paris Arr. 18 (Montmartre, Sacre Coeur) reviews

  • Nice pied-a-terre in the middle of Montmartre

"We'd stayed in Montmartre before but this was the first time we really experienced it. We arrived on Sunday when Rue Steinquerque is closed to automobiles so we had to drag our bags from Blvd Clichy two blocks through a crowd of tourists, souvenir sellers and three-card monte players (I counted two games but there might have been three). In other words, it was a perfect introduction to Montmartre and its unique personality as the center of arts and boulevard entertainment. Rue Steinquerque is the main two-block street leading from the Anvers Metro station to Sacre Coeur, just up the hill from the apartment. The apartment itself is in a beautiful, well-maintained building in contrast to the souvenir shops below. On the fifth floor, it has a small terrace that looks out on a beautiful panorama of Paris rooftops and, to the right, the hillside that includes Sacre Coeur. The sofa bed in the front room opens easily and is comfortable, unlike other sofa beds we've known and the small kitchen is well appointed. We visited the Louvre and Musee D'Orsay districts -- both easy to get to by Metro -- and also explored Montmartre, fascinating and not as crowded at central Paris. Starting at the Sacre Coeur we walked through the old neighborhood that was once the center of the most famous art epoch in modern history. The Montmarte Museum, in a house where Renoir painted one of his best-known works, is a great place to explore the area's history both before and after it was incorporated into Paris. The streets uphill from the Steinquetque apartment are also nice to explore where Picasso's Bateau-Lavoir once stood and today there are lots of cafes and shops without being "gentrified." On early morning walks, saw young fathers and mothers taking their kids to the local school and also the cafes still open for business. There is still a bohemian atmosphere here that we really enjoyed."

  • Perfect stay

"Our stay was perfect, the apartment was everything as expected. I absolutely love Montmartre, the apartment is close to restaurants, patisseries, popular sights Moulin Rouge, Sacre Coeur, easy walk to the Metro stations. So much to see and do right at your doorstep. It is very secure, quiet the double glazed windows are fabulous. The modern interior presents a clean and comfortable environment. Would definitely stay here again."

  • Excellent apartment - great location

"I can only recommend this apartment. Situated 100 meters from Moulin Rouge but very, very quiet. We were two using it for work for 20 days, good internet connection. The apartement was clean and nice when we got it. Two separte bedrooms, ok dining room, small kitchen but with everything that you'll need to cook a meal (which we didn't, there are fantastic restaurants just outside). The manager, Pierre, spoke good english and was very serviceminded. Why not five stars? Because luxury apartment exists - but theres no need for that, when you can rent this flat :-)"

  • erfect location

"We loved staying in apartment Chappe. Montmartre was a new section of Paris for us, and it was fantastic--great restaurants, lots of variety; great little shops, and a lot going on. It had a real neighborhood feel. The flat was comfortable and quiet, and it is perfectly situated to take advantage of all Montmartre has to offer. We will definitely be back!"
