  • A wonderful week

"We had a wonderful week at La Bergerie. It is such a relaxing place - no cars, no sounds but the rustle of the wind in the trees and the call of the golden orioles (briefly glimpsed). The mulberry tree makes the perfect parasol, to sit and read, or to enjoy convivial meals. The pool is immaculate, and well fenced-in so that we had no worries about the children having accidents. They loved all the animals - Gordon the dog, and the donkeys and goats and hens. Jenny and Nick were excellent hosts, too!"

  • A haven in unspoilt French countryside

"We were 14, a family spanning 3 generations, and it suited us all. The Farmhouse has recently been upgraded and is delightful. The pink house was perfect for the adult grandchildren. The cabin was full of character and charm. But the real highlight of this retreat is the outside space, which is beautiful, with wonderful views, peaceful and private. We ate outside for every meal, in an outdoor kitchen, and savoured the quiet, shady terraces and quiet spots. We cooked paella, had barbeques and ate like kings! We adored the region - loved exploring the local Roman towns, markets and vineyards and Sauve is a perfect base, having recently undergone considerable urban regeneration, with great food. We would definitely return!"

  • Comfortable, well equipped chalet short walk to a well-stocked epicerie in an impressive location

"We enjoyed our stay very much, having been welcomed by its owners and shown where everything was. It was well-equipped, clean and comfortable. You can't get far quickly in the Cevennes! Lots of windy, narrow roads and mountains, but Le Pompidou was well located to get around to most of the places on our to visit list. The scenery is impressive and the history fascinating. It was great walking through the chestnut forests when the chestnuts were falling (we did eat a lot) though never quite sussed out the Chasse presence - even Tourist Information in Florac were unsure! Fortunately we didn't clash. We kept tripping over RL Stevenson on GR70 so I ended up reading Travels with a Donkey in the Cevennes -in the Cevennes! Indifferent to it at school, but enjoyed it a lot in context. Much amused by the fact that the relevant leaflet details the very many accommodations that welcome donkeys! The nearby Gorge du Tarn is jaw dropping."
