  • The Happiest of Times

"It’s delightful here. You’re met at the house by two of the most hospitable, courteous, interesting people you could imagine, Joan and Aune [the ‘Au’ as in ‘now’]. The lovely honey-stone farmhouse has wide views over beautiful countryside. We stayed [for 4 weeks in April 2016] in ‘La Bergerie’, [an independent house that is part of the very long farmhouse], a roomy, homely converted sheep barn, with all facilities [comfortable beds too] including a very efficient wood-burner [plus additional central heating if needed]. As it was April, some of the evenings were cool outside. This was a great month for wild-flowers, cuckoos, and hoopoes. For hot days, there is a large swimming pool to the far side of the farmhouse with plenty of space to relax , enjoy the garden or read, while the house, with its high ceilings, is airy and cool. We can recommend visits to Beaumont du Perigord, St Avit [nice café], both are walkable from the house, Cadouin, and Monpazier [amongst others]. They’re all built in the local honey-coloured stone, and all are most interesting and beautiful. We had an excellent lunch at ‘bistro 2’ in Monpazier; if you need a hat, go to ‘The Four Cats’ hat-shop there, great choices. And, if you want to see something extraordinary [and I mean that] see the quite exceptional caves at Grotte de Grand Roc. Of course, you don’t have to do anything. We had lovely days relaxing, listening to the birds and watching Joan and Aune working on their land! There are lovely walks directly from the house, including going directly from the grounds of the property along a randonné, past woods and vineyards, and on to the Chateau de Bannes. Maps can be had in Beaumont’s very helpful Tourist Office and at the Intermarché on the outskirts of Beaumont, where you can also get 24hr fuel for your vehicle [put your credit/debit card first into the machine; the instructions will appear in English as well if needed; enter your PIN and etc]. I used GPS: 44º 47” 29.3 N and 0º 46” 25.6 E for the property itself, and you may find that the turning from the little country road to the side track that leads to the house [an ancient sign shows ‘Cantegrive’], is about 50m further on than your satnav shows. The wi-fi is very efficient here and the TV has both UK and French programmes. My wife and I really recommend this delightful place and are very much looking forward to returning later this year."

  • Great location!

"The property was in a great location.. easy to find and walking distance to the Chateau and downtown. Beds were comfortable but the living room furniture was a bit tired when we went in June 2016. Hopefully that will be updated soon. Could of been a bit cleaner but I, admittedly, am picky. The owner was very responsive to helping me with the washer/dryer witch was way different from US washer and dryer systems. I would recommend this property to friends b/c of the proximity to the Fontainbleau forest for hiking, biking and great bouldering and the Chateau with it's beautiful grounds. The train station (Gare) was in Avon about 10-15 minutes from the property to quickly get in to Paris ( and the man at the station was very nice and helpful). We rented a car and it was wonderful to travel around the area but the parking garage spot was much more suited, size wise, to bikes."

  • Fantastic holiday house

"Lovely house. Lots of room for all the family. Every possible thing you can think of is provided. There are several patios available for a sunny meal or drink depending on the time of day. Beds are large and comfortable. A very enjoyable stay."
