  • Very spacious and homely gite.

"I booked online for myself, my husband, my sister and her boyfriend. We knew we wanted a gite with a pool. We was delighted when we found gite retaud. Once we arrived (after a very long and slow journey from Calais) we was greeted by a lovely gentleman and his daughter. His English was very good and he showed us around before leaving us to settle in and go food shopping. The gite is provided with everything you can think of. Plenty of kitchen equipment, outdoor bbq and seating area. The pool area is a few metres away from the gite itself. The only thing we felt let the pool down was the the lid they had fitted to keep the heat it. It was raised in three sections allowing entrance down the stairs. But it cut off the ends of the pool, then not allowing full access to the pool. It also had metal bars either end which could be quite dangerous for young children. Even though one day my sister (who once worked as a lifeguard) had to remove the pool vaccum as it had been left in the pool while the owners were out. There is a resident dog called tinley. All she wants to do it have attention and her ball thrown for her. She's even well trained enough not to enter the gite. We was in France when it was Bastille day. We was not aware of this national holiday. We didn't realise all shops would be closed. We felt the owners could have maybe pre warned us. We felt the information books inside the gite need updating as we couldn't find any of the local things ie pizza van in retaud. The beds are comfortable and the bathroom is kept clean. The bbq is well maintained and within easy reach for outside dining. One evening we decided we would like a proper French dinner. We visited la table. Which is around 15 minutes down the road. Information about it is in the information book. We was very worried as the menu was in French but a kind gentleman translated for us. All in all we had a wonderful and relaxing time at gite retaud. The sun and pool was just what we needed."

  • Charming Chateau in a beautiful location

"We had a fantastic stay in the Chateau - it is beautifully set up with a lovely outside and cosy inside (with a proper fireplace!) for the winter evenings. The peaceful library was the perfect place to enjoy some quiet time before even more relaxing in the hot tub - which was such a treat! The bedrooms were all very stylish with a great number of bathrooms which made our whole stay even more luxurious and enjoyable. We had some great walks around the village and a delicious lunch in the neighbouring village just ten minutes away. All in all the perfect place to stay with a big group of people - we couldn't have had a better time!"

  • Fantastic house

"This is the best house we have rented in France in the last 12 years of holidaying there. The house is equipped with everything you could ever need, the rooms are beautiful and the beds are so comfortable. The house was clean and the pool perfect. The addition of a table tennis table was a real winner. We stayed with our children (aged 10-13) and our dog. This was the first time we have taken our dog to France and the house and enclosed garden were perfect for him. A gate at the bottom of the garden leads to the riverside where he was able to swim in the river at high tide. The owner was efficient and friendly and replied in a timely manner to all my enquiries. He was able to answer all my questions including recommending a local vet for our pre-return health check. The location was beautiful, and so peaceful. We were truly sad to come home."
