  • A great 'base' to explore Berlin

"We stayed here for a week, combining 'business' and 'pleasure'. It's a very functional flat, conveniently divided - with two spacious bedrooms, a bathroom (with a bathtub) a living room with a very well equipped kitchen. In fact, the whole flat is very well furnished and equipped. A light bulb is out? You'll surely find a spare one, or half a dozen. Forgot your hairdryer? No worries, there is one. Need to wash stuff? A washing machine (and possibly some detergent). Coffee? Two kinds of machines and coffee in the cupboard. You really feel like you're staying at a place a friend allows you to use while (s)he is not in Berlin. The place was clean and the keys pickup and checkout very well organized. But the strongest point is the location. Close to everywhere and perfectly commuted. Nollendorfplatz might not be world-famous (unless you are into LGTB issues, then you will know that it's been the center of 'Berlin Pride' for decades - but unless you know that you might not even notice, because the atmosphere is very low key), but it is a major transport hub and it happens to be just around the corner. U-Bahn from there will take you almost anywhere in Berlin, and for the other places you have busses. The area itself is rather calm - neither particularly hip nor exoticly immigrant nor stiff bourgeois. Just your ordinary Berlin 'Kiez'. But walk to the right (for a mile or so) and you will get to the legendary Kreuzberg. Turn left, and you will get to the West Berlin Zoo, the KaDeWe and the posh Kurfurstendamm (Ku'dam) shopping street. Go straight (almost) and you will get to Tiergarten and the entire historic Downtown Berlin (Mitte). It doesn't get better than this. The only thing you need to take into account is the last flight of stairs - getting to the second floor is a smooth ascent, but the stairs from second to third floor are a climb (and narrow). We kept our stroller downstairs (perfectly safe), but carrying luggage upstairs was workout. Then again - if my 77-year-old grandmother managed to climb upstairs to visit us when we were there, so can you."

  • Clean, quiet, and comfortable!

"Excellent place to relax from all your Berlin sightseeing. It is clean, quiet, and as pictured. There is a Gartenfrau that works from sunup to sundown, keeping the garden in top shape. It is located right off the M85 bus route that runs often. The neighborhood is not in the middle of the action, but you can easily get to the city center via Bus, S-Bahn, or U-Bahn. From Berlin Airport, TXL, take the Airport Bus to the Hauptbahnhof and transfer to the M85. Very easy. For those not desiring a climb to the fourth floor with their luggage, this is the place. It is less than 10 steps up into the building. Highly recommended."
