  • Lovely home, centrally located

"This home is very clean and modern, and nicely located to allow day trips to locations like Galway, New Grange, Clonmacnoise, etc. The house is perfect for 2 persons, but dinnerware is short for more than two. It is well-supplied with appliances which are pretty new. The sun room is very light and cheerful. We took the downstairs bedroom, which worked out well; the house is super private so that having to walk through the kitchen to get to the bathroom was not a problem. Upstairs is a three-quarter bed in it's own bedroom, a sofa bed in an open area, and a bathroom. WiFi was available through a telephone 3G mobile data hotspot, which can be a little limiting at times. Ballymore itself is pretty much all residential, with two bars, a gas station, a convenience store, and a take-out food store; thus, you will have to head out toward Athlone, Glasson, or Moate for a meal out. The house was very comfortable and met our needs. Benny was very hospitable and provided bread, jam, and milk upon our arrival. Her kindness and quick responsiveness was much appreciated!"

  • Awesome place, amazing experience!

"We were a group of 10 adults plus a 10 month old traveling around Ireland, some of us for the first time and others, like me, traveling the Emerald Isle for the 4th time. I wanted a place centralized for part of our trip and Ballycumber was the best choice I could've made! Connie was wonderful from the very start and really showed she cared about her guests. This house is so amazing and the grounds are beautiful. The location is perfect, easy to find and super close to 2 great pubs! Gav and James were just as wonderful as Connie in making us all feel welcome! We came during a rather cold couple of days, it even snowed a bit! But we still loved the old feel of this house and really appreciated the fireplace in the main living room. Connie welcomed us early on our arrival day since our intercontinental flight got in at 5 am. Showed us around and gave us the history of the house. Just an absolutely amazing experience! Tons of room for all of us. Would love to stay again someday! Thank you so much Connie!!!"

  • Great property!

"Jim was a wonderful host. He facilitated getting help to us when a minor emergency occurred. He was highly responsive prior to our arrival and during our stay. The house was ideal for our family. The six bedrooms were comfortable; and, having two sitting rooms at opposite ends of the house was ideal for teens and their interests and the rest of us with our interests. One must have sufficient transportation for everyone in one's party due to the need to drive into town for groceries, see the local sites and enjoy everything Athlone has to offer. The property location is rather distant from the town center - ideal for relaxing and enjoying the semi-remote location. Be ready to drive your recycling to the central recycling center (a small fee is charged by the center). Make sure to use the GPS coordinates to locate the property."

  • Cozy Cottage in a Great Location

"We spent several weeks as guests of Marian and John in Ashtree Cottage. They were very friendly and gracious hosts. We found the cottage matched what the description and pictures online showed. The cottage was inviting, well equipped and each of the three bedrooms had en suite bath. Peat (turf) was provided if we wanted a fire. We had requested Internet access and Marian set it up when we arrived. Although it was a little slow, it was adequate for surfing and email, as Marian had told us in a previous conversation. The only negative I can think of is that the sofa and chairs in the living room could use better support for the cushions and we brought that to Marian's attention. Marian and John's farm is located next door and any questions or concerns were quickly addressed. Marian was very helpful in helping us find local music and restaurants. The cottage was on a quiet country road and we took a walk most days, sometimes joined by Buddy, the farm dog. We often ended up at the Shannon River which was tucked in between trees and farmland and very beautiful. You will need a car as it is a drive of 10 minutes to Banagher for groceries, petrol, pubs and restaurants. It was an ideal place to explore central Ireland with monastic sites, castles, gardens, bogs, steeplechase racing, distilleries, canals, and markets. We really enjoyed the sunsets, listening to the birds and watching Marian's flowers bloom. Family members who stayed with us for a week agreed with our assessment of the cottage. We would definitely stay in Ashtree Cottage again and would recommend it to our family and friends."
