  • Luxury and comfort on a different level

"We stayed at this wonderful house for nine nights in late September/early October. There were just two of us but it would easily accommodate six adults or a family. The location of the house is stunning, right on the sea, looking over toward Lahinch beach and the rugged coastline. Brendan welcomed us warmly and gave us a tour of the house. Everything you could possibly need is provided and more besides. We had to drag ourselves away from the house to visit the many attractions of this beautiful county, such as the cliffs of Moher less than 4 miles away, the magical Burren, Lisdoonvarna and Doolin to name a few. Liscannor is really well situated to visit anywhere in Clare and we even got the bus one day so we could both enjoy the sights. We cooked a few times so as not to miss the early evening view and enjoy the waves crashing against the rocks when the tide came in. The picture windows from the living rooms and the master bedroom allow you to make the most of the scenery. There is no compromise on comfort and you will be guaranteed a great nights sleep in high quality beds. The gorgeous bed in the master bedroom is 6 feet wide and the mattress was so comfortable we are now on the lookout for a similar one. So often holiday homes are furnished sparsely and with little thought for the holdiaymaker. My husband is 6'5" so he was delighted with this as he was with the huge TVs in all three sitting rooms, yes three! When I managed to convince him we should leave the house of an evening we enjoyed a meal in Vaughans seafood restaurant, a few minutes walk away. I'd told him they did a wonderful seafood platter but he was devastated to discover it was only on the summer menu which had ended as it was 1st October?? While we both enjoyed our meal we felt it was a bit overpriced and have had better for less in many other restaurants in Ireland. Although they have has a lot of awards for their food, the latest seem to be a few years ago. Maybe best to get a taxi or drive to Lahinch or farther afield if you are a real foodie. We adjourned to Egan's pub after our meal and had a great night. The proprietor was enjoying a night off and was most welcoming and the band, Off the Walnuts, we're brilliant and really interacted with the crowd. We also enjoyed very nice fish and chips in McHugh's pub one night. The barman is friendly and welcoming and so are the patrons. We have rented many houses on the west coast of Ireland but nothing has compared to Holland Drive."

  • A comfortable farmhouse in a beautiful location.

"We stayed at Tig John for three nights right before the New Year holiday. We had some travel delays the first night so did not arrive until 10:30 pm. Eileen, the property manager/caretaker, was fantastic and very flexible in helping us make arrangements to get the keys. When we got there we were delighted to find a house that has clearly been loved by generations. There was an ample supply of peat for the stoves, and space heaters to help beat the winter chill. I think the only complaint I had was that, although the kitchen was well stocked, i struggled a little with lack of counter space. The beds were very comfortable and I highly advise that you try to climb the hill behind the house. It's a bit of a climb, but well worth it. The views are amazing. A couple of things we learned: - Finding the house for the first time after dark can be challenging. Try to get there before nightfall. - Starting peat fires can be challenging (even with instructions). Be patient and keep trying. The stove in the sitting room is much easier to get going. - Eileen is a font of information about things to do/see locally. :)"
