  • Perfection

"Giorgio - what a great host. Helped us to the apartment, thoroughly toured the apartment and gave us a tour of Modica. While on the tour we stopped by a restaurant where he made us dinner reservations. He also made supper / dinner reservations for us on Christmas Eve and Christmas day (very limited openings). My 17 year old son, wife and I spent 5 days in Modica and enjoyed every moment. The apartment was perfect and we didn't need for anything. We could easily walk to town and there are many towns nearby to visit. An awesome visit."

  • Centrally located apartment in a beautiful city

"We stayed 3 nights in the Amuri House in Modica and found it very pleasant. The apartment has been recently renovated and is in very good condition. The upstairs bedroom is larger and brighter than the downstairs bedroom, but both could use more comfortable seating. The only seating is in the kitchen at the dining table. There is a short walk to the main street of Modica which is a beautiful town and is a pleasure to take walks in and look for nice places to dine, which are readily available. Those with mobility issues should be aware however that Modica is built in a valley with hills on both sides of the central town area and there is considerable up and down hill walking to get from the parking spot to the apartment and to town and back. But we found it invigorating and enjoyed our touring of the city. We also found it relatively easy to use the apartment as a base to travel from and we took day trips to Syracusa, Noto, Scicli and the surrounding areas. All in all it was a very enjoyable visit."

  • Location, Charm, History

"Once we had got over the fact that cleaning hadn't been completed when we arrived and at least half of the light bulbs were out, it took us about 2 days to adapt to the fact that at least some degree of renovation, particularly of the bathrooms, is well overdue. By day 3 we had all fallen completely in love with Baglio San Filippo. It was like having a holiday in the country mansion of an ancient great uncle, or on the set of The Leopard. Certainly one is surrounded by the history of the owning family, various branches of which have owned it for close to 3 centuries. The present owner/descendant, though living in Catania, and her cousin (who lives in the village), could not have been more helpful or friendly and were always able to advise and guide us, including arranging for a delightful cook and cleaner. We were a large party with plenty of children, all of whom loved the grounds and pool and the beach at Sampieri (about 20 minutes away). The adults became completely intoxicated by the house and by the area. Southern Sicily does that. Modica has to be the most beautifully crumbling baroque town of all of them, though Ragusa, Scicli and Noto are all obligatory for first-time visitors. This year we also discovered Pozzalo, present in no guide books nor websites but another faded gem, flaunting every degree of its lower-than-Tunis latitude. I would have given Baglio San Filippo 5 stars but for the quibbles at the start of this review, but in truth, how can one rate a stay in a historical timewarp? It is glorious, and we will return, if the friendly ghosts which inhabit the old drawing room will have us."

  • A wonderful stay in Modica!!!

"We spent ten fantastic days in Modica (lovely and friendly city!). We really liked the apartment, very special and beautifully decorated. A lot of space and two outdoor places, perfect for relaxing and eating. The house is perfectly situated; it’s close to the main street with a lot of restaurants and small shops, but at the same time calm and away from traffic. Though we came by car, we had no problem to find free parking close to the house. Ugo, the owner of the house, was very kind and helpful in all thinkable ways. A most amiable person. He gave us good recommendations for things to see and discover and god tips on great beaches. We highly recommend it, booth the house and the city!"
