  • Beautiful setting, spacious and characterful accommodation, good location, well equipped, fab views

"It was a wonderful, tranquil place to get away from it all. The written description and photos were accurate but the place was even better than the photos! The setting was perfect with lovely views of the mountains. The property was well kept, very well equipped, spacious and comfortable. The garden was very pretty with lots of areas to sit, eat out and relax. The pool was clean and beautiful and had the added bonus of inflatables etc for the children. Good quality loungers and sunshades. The gym was a luxurious bonus. It was great to be able to walk into the very pretty medieval village (three mins) and have a drink at one of the two bars, You can also get ice-creams, basic provisions, bread and lunchtime snacks. The other bar also serves delicious pizzas. What more could you need? Although quite a long, winding drive up from the valley, the property was well situated to reach the main road, with supermarkets and restaurants no more than a 15 minute drive away. Lucca is very easily reached (35 mins), perfect to visit in the late afternoon/evening. There is a lot to see and do in the area, we wished we had had more time to explore further into the moutains. Barga is well worth a visit across the other side of the valley. Florence is a good day-trip out, we took the train from Lucca (1.5 hrs) as it seemed easier, and no problem with parking. It was very helpful being able to speak to the English-speaking friend of the owner who was on hand if we had any issues. We would thoroughly recommend this property for a family of four or six, probably with childen over the age of 6 as there is a high up out-door terrace off the kitchen, and the stairs are not suitable for toddlers. The pool, however, is fenced with a lockable gate. Can't wait to return there one day."

"Maison très agréable et très bien équipée,propriétaires sympatiques .Ce site correspond mieux ,pour des personnes souhaitant bouger peu en voiture,ou faire des balades en montagne car l'accès aux routes de plaine nécessite au minimum 45 mn"

  • Interesting place

"Flat in the center of the city (area pedonale). There are many parking places around the house. Old house, but fresh repair - in provence style - cute. All equipment working. But there is no wifi, temperature spikes of warm water and bar on the ground floor (very noisy till late and early in the morning). Many restaurants and osterias. Half an hour and you will see the sea and neighbouring towns."

  • The Perfect Family and Friends Vacation!!

"What a trip! There were eight of us celebrating--60th birthday, 40th wedding anniversary and graduation from college! Villa Gourmet surpassed our expectations--nice, very clean and comfortable bedrooms, enough bathrooms for everyone. The two bedrooms downstairs are connected making it perfect for a family with younger children. Non smoking home which was wonderful for my family! Kitchen was huge and accommodated all of us easily. Lovely large pool area with seating and umbrellas. We enjoyed that it was away from the hustle and bustle. Lots of birds and animals, lovely natural setting, peaceful and quiet. But close enough for day trips to the coast, Florence, Lucca, Pisa, and Montecatini, once you have mastered driving the roundabouts. Although most all of the roads in Florence are under construction. Make sure you have good walking shoes! Our host, Stephano, was so welcoming and available via text or phone for any questions regarding recycling and what restaurants to visit. A must is a local restaurant Galeno 3 km from Villa Gourmet owned by the son of his butcher friend. They specialize in venison and wild boar. Delicious! Karaoke on Sunday and Wednesday nights too! The owner doesn't speak English but when he sings Italian Opera~~to die for~~Another restaurant in Oretano is Da Benito's, quite famous for its steak fiorentina, so make a reservation well in advance. Another must see is Montecantini Alto--a small village reached by funicular, a wooden cable train built in the 1890's to top of mountain. The restaurants (Cafe Guisti), shops and view!!! Lerici is a beautiful coastal town where you can also catch a boat to Cinque Terra. Lucca, with its roman wall and piazzas, in a must see too. Fabulous shops (Gong, a favorite with us, whose owner is from Del Mar, CA) and gelato and cafes. The airport at Pisa is quite convenient and a good jumping off place to other cities throughout Europe when your visit to Tuscany has ended. We will be returning to Villa Gourmet again soon."
