  • A great place to be based to see Lucca & Pisa and get a taste of the hill country.

"Great location up in the hills north of Lucca with terrific views of the valley below and cool breezes at night. Two restaurants within 5 and 20 minute walk. Major supermarket in the town below about 10 minute drive from the apartment. The apartment is in a complex of several others in a compound around an old, palatial villa ...up and away from heat and crowds. Plusses include modern amenities, two nicely sized bedrooms (perfect for a family with two children), and a pool with great views. Minuses are minor and include relatively weak wifi/internet (streaming video difficult) and parking for non-owners is a bit remote and tight. The hosts are accommodating and nice."

  • rent from Mrs Sonia for the best properties!

"We celebrated out 30th anniversary (Oct. 15) with family & friends at Villa Querciabella. Upon arrival, Oct. 13) we were greeted w/drinks, appetizers and a wonderful tuscan dinner. The villa is something out of a story book---attention to detail in every room! Mrs Sonia surprised us w/homemade pastries, cakes and ice cream! Of course, there was plenty of wine! While we were there, we had a pizza party and a chef came in to teach us how to cook a tuscan meal! Never had so much fun in my life---we laughed and sang while preparing our meals! On our last day, Mrs Sonia and family came with a home made cake for us! The next morning we left very early and Mrs Sonia was there to send us off! Of course, we all had tears in our eyes when saying good-by! Such a beautiful family and memories we'll never forget! This experience will be remembered the rest of our lives! This was our second time renting from Sonia and it won’t be the last. Maureen"

  • Lovely Tuscan Holiday Appartment

"We stayed in an Al Fiori Apartment. The apartment was lovely and the quality of the everything was of the highest order. Please note that Al Fiori apartments do NOT have a panoramic view over the Lucca valley as many photos on the HomeAway website would lead you to believe. You need to book a more expensive apartment type to get the view which is truly spectacular. We learned this in Italy. The apartment is part of a complex centred around a very grand Villa and it is not a traditional complex but more a small village of buildings which have ALL been renovated to the highest standard. It really is amazing. The complex has visitors from all over Europe and the kids found many different friends by the excellent shared pool. Matraia is not the most exciting village and the 2 local restaurants are not the best but the views over Lucca are very special. The nearest supermarket is a good 10 mins away but it is excellent. It is very easy to get to Lucca, Pisa and even Florence from Matraia. We were very positively surprised by Pisa which offers a lot more than the tower. The mountains behind Matraia are very green and lush and well worth a hike. The mountains are not the highest but cyclists will still enjoy them due to their extraordinary steepness. There is a huge cycling scene in the area. The local wine was disappointing and tbh we never managed to find a good restaurant, however the food in the local supermarket was actually superb from their deli desk and the apartment had a full and well equipped kitchen. We would go back to Tuscany for sure but next time we would probably move more towards Chianti/Siena."

  • Review for stay from 30 April 2016 to 07 May 2016

"This is really a lovely house at a fantastic location in the hills overseeing the valley of Lucca. Lots of space, great swimming pool and well maintained property. Whilst there is WiFi, think it would add to the total experience if the TV stations are extended with English language channels. Also the road to the house can be a bit better maintained as quite qa painful experience for the car! But overall, highly recommended."
