  • Lovely rustic property in beautiful surroundings

"We came to tuscany for the first time and found ourselves in a lovely rustic apartment with idyllic views surrounding. The owners were exceptional good hosts who enjoyed company and were happy to help with anything such as directing us to places of interest and booking our resturants for us. The pool was perfect for the children in the hot Italian sun. The atmosphere was calm, quiet and relaxed and the food on their restaurant was good. Fantastic place good value for money would definitely recommend staying"

  • The perfect choice for Tuscan immersion

"If I was a fly on a wall, I would choose a wall at Casa Illuminata just to see the faces of those who see this Tuscan treasure for the first time. As you walk into the living area, you face a triptych of arched windows. It's a stunning, jaw-dropping view. Then you look around and discover how beautifully the room has been designed and decorated. Everything is both tasteful and thoughtful. Bookshelves fill the east wall, but its spaces are equally shared by books and objets d'arte. Many books provide help in exploring Tuscany and translating English to Italian. The kitchen and dining area repeat the arch theme and again, it's obvious a lot of thought and creativity went into the design. By American standards, the kitchen is tiny, yet a chef and four of us maneuvered easily about the space as we learned to make polenta with prosciutto, spinach and goat cheese ravioli, sesame potatoes, a beef roll and one devine apple tart. Casa Illuminata features two bedrooms, one upstairs from the living area and one below. The upstairs bedroom opens to a large terrace that provides the best view in all of Radicondoli. You'll spend a lot of time there lounging, eating, sipping wine or coffee, taking pictures, and -- of course -- sighing. It was there the sky blazed in shades of red as we consumed our culinary handiwork. The lower bedroom has a terrace as well. There's a nice view, just not as panoramic as what you get upstairs. Beds are very comfy and there are blankets and pillows galore. Bathrooms are modern and a washing machine resides in the downstairs bath. Clothes are air dried on racks. It's the way laundry is done in Italy. Casa Illuminata is cosy, clean and comfortable. But perhaps its best feature is the hilltop village of Radicondoli. The locals still greatly outnumber the tourists and the vibe is relaxed, informal and friendly. If you're lucky enough to book this place, it comes with a wealth of information and tips from its owner. The tourist information center is close by and Karin can offer a long list of suggestions for dining, wine tastings and day trips. She's a great resource. This beautiful Tuscan retreat does have one downside -- whether you stay for a few days or a few weeks, there will come a time when you must leave. Trust me, it's not easy."

  • Authentic and relaxing

"Our week in this beautiful villa met all our expectations and more. Francesca and Lorenzo made us welcome from the minute we arrived and let us enjoy the property without intrusion. Radicondoli is a very small town but it had everything we needed as we discovered by wandering into the tiny grocery store and by dining at two wonderful restaurants. The relaxing atmosphere here was hard to leave."
