  • heaven on earth

"we have just returned to the US after a month at Pergolaccio and are in mourning: the wonderfully restored farmhouse with its huge beams, the perfect terrace overlooking the Umbrian landscape, the refreshing pool, fruit trees of every kind and the kind caring of the housekeeper and her husband, the gardener. It was a magical stay, with respective (adult) children and grandkids rotating through. Everyone loved it. Owners' recommendations are excellent and we enjoyed their well appointed kitchen and abundance of Deruta ware; the proximity of the delightful town of Todi for passigato and gelato make it all a winner."

  • This is a beautifully designed, comfortable and well located home for a memorable vacation

"We found Casa del Gelso to be a perfect spot and exactly what we wanted and needed for our 2 week stay in Umbria in late October. The house is a new, very well built house, fully supplied and stocked with everything you need in the kitchen for snacks and meals. Adele, whose beautiful family owns the property and which she manages, lives right next door and was extremely helpful and attentive to our needs. Everything that appeared in the listing was accurate, if not even better. The house is very well maintained, clean and comfortable. The Wi-Fi was excellent and dependable. Not only was Todi a nice town to visit, with excellent access to the center, but there were also many other enjoyable towns within close proximity for an enjoyable day-trip. When at Casa del Gelso, we enjoyed the time in the lower level of the house, with a comfortable kitchen/living area, two bedrooms and two nice, clean and full bathrooms. With other comforts such as the washing machine in the lower level, the very nice and clean outdoor table and chairs under the front canopy, the beautiful view of the valley and the family olive orchard from our bedroom and the 2 bathroom windows, the fireplace (which we used one chilly evening) and the hospitality of Adele and her family, we felt that we found exactly what we had hoped for. There is an excellent supermarket in Todi and a larger EMI store only a few miles away where anything you could possibly need can be purchased. The restaurants in Todi , as well as the nearby cities, were terrific. Adele provided us with an information booklet summarizing, among many other things, the various restaurants, trattorias, etc, their price range and types of meals, which was very helpful. We enjoyed having our main meal in one of the trattorias or such during the lunch period and would snack in Casa del Gelso in the evenings on wine, cheese, olives, prosciutto, fruit and such. We rented a car and found it very helpful, especially getting around in these small, Italian towns. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa del Gelso and would highly recommend it to our friends and family. Thank you, Adele and all your family for a wonderful 2 weeks. You made us feel very welcome and like a member of the family."

  • Clean, comfortable and perfectly located!

"Our daughter, son in law and children live in the historic center of Todi, and we wanted a place very close to them. This apartment was perfectly situated, just off the Piazza di Populo. There were only 5 steps to the front door (unusual in a town that is built on a hill). The windows opened onto a quiet alley, and the bed was comfortable, so we slept very well all week. The kitchen/living room was well equipped, although a couple of extra glasses would not go amiss. The bathroom was modern and there was plenty of hot water. It is a very old building, but has been very well restored, and is all on one level, except for the bathroom, where there is a deep step up, and then a shallower step down to access the toilet. I only mention this as it might be difficult for a handicapped person to manage, but we had no trouble dealing with this. Being only steps from the Duomo and the main square of Todi made it very easy for us to frequent the many coffee and gelato restaurants on and around the square. Our favorite, which was a little further away was Pianegiani, which, although not on the main square, had a delightful little piazza on the side. Our host, Jens, was most helpful, guiding our car through the pedestrian area so we could unload the luggage, then advising us that we could buy multi-day parking passes at the parking lot at the bottom of the ascensore. This is definitely the best place to park, since parking in the town is pretty much reserved for residents. The funicular from the parking lot to the to of the hill runs constantly and is free. I heartily recommend this apartment, and we hope to stay there again, the next time we visit Todi."

  • An Exquisite Experience in Umbria

"My husband and I stayed at the apartment in mid November 2016. As you can see from the other reviews, this apartment is a wonderful place. Todi is a beautiful Medieval labyrinth and you feel as though you are living inside a fairy tale. The apartment is located on two floors. Below are 2 bedrooms (1 queen, 1 single), a full bath, as well as an amazing room filled with Carlo's family antique furniture and paintings. Upstairs is a another room which can be used as a bedroom, a living room, dining room, kitchen, and half bath. The 3rd floor also has an amazing balcony facing south overlooking the hills of Umbria. The view actually brought tears to my eyes. From there, you can see sunrise and sunset. The apartment is clean, comfortable, the beds are comfortable, the towels are plentiful and plush, the kitchen is charming and utilitarian, but most importantly, it is actually a home with interesting art and books. For us, the best part of renting the apartment was Carlo. Carlo is a talented photographer and his work hangs in the apartment. He is also a wonderful host. He keeps a book with all of his suggestions for restaurants, coffee, shops, and outings. He has travel books for use, and many maps for your use. Todi is centrally located to many other towns. With Carlo's help we could suggest an itinerary of Assisi one day, a second day to Civita Bagnorigio and Orvieto, and a third day to Bagnava, Spello and Montefalco (this direction has amazing rural landscapes of olive groves and vineyards). Carlo also suggested a cooking class at the School of Italian Language and Culture in Todi. You can contact them directly and they will make arrangements. The class was in a family's home in Todi, and it was a highlight of our trip. Umbria is amazing, Todi is amazing and the apartment is amazing. I have used VRBO and similar sites for many years, and I can give this apartment my highest recommendation. Thank you Carlo. We hope we can host you when you come to NY !"
