  • Beautiful and comfortable accommodations close to historic centre of Sintra

"Very nice! Clean, comfortable and well situated for easy walking to restaurants etc. and easy access to the historic centre of Sintra. I was travelling with my 86 year old father and it was easy to get out for dinner and we were lucky enough to find parking that was available right outside the door. The kitchen and living area are on the main floor, bedrooms upstairs. Luis was very prompt returning emails and phone calls and was very helpful. There were quite a few stairs to negotiate for someone with mobility issues. As a Canadian, I did not understand the term duplex meant stairs.... Kitchen is nice but there are no condiments such as sugar, salt pepper etc so if you are going to cook, make sure you bring everything! Very good espresso pods for the espresso machine were provided and everything else was above expectations! Remember to use the GPS coordinates Luis provides to find the property! I would highly recommend this beautiful property and I would love to return. Thank you Luis."

  • Second time around! Amazing home and location.

"This was our second time at this villa, last time was 9 years ago for may Mom and Dad's 50th Wedding Anniversary. Home is even better now with all the comforts of home. Antonio once again was a pleasure to deal with and very accommodating with arrival times and fixing TV reception. This is a lovely location for a family get together. We held my Mother-in-law's 90th Birthday celebration there and cooked and entertained approx. 30 people. We were blessed with wonderful sunshine and were able to use the outdoor grill. Everyone enjoyed the comfort provided by the home and easy access. Thanks, once again Antonio, looking forward to coming back again and this time with less time span in between. May be even one of the coming summers. Cheers"

  • A lovely big house with a heavenly terrace

"We stayed at Quinta da Matalva for 10 days in April 2017. Communication from the English owner by email was good, and when we arrived we were met by a member of his family who was friendly, relaxed and helpful. There were beautiful fresh flowers and fruit in the house, picked from the garden, as well as bread, milk and wine - a wonderful welcome. During the stay the house and pool were looked after by the friendly and helpful Ana. The house was clean and very spacious, and the terrace is wonderfully secluded - you can barely see any other houses as you look out on a fabulous view over the mountains to the sea. The balcony off the main bedroom is gorgeous in the evening as the tiled bench warms up in the sun during the day. The Sintra area is absolutely amazing. The nearby palaces and gardens provided many days of exciting discovery. Though they got busy, we found it was easy to escape the crowds as their grounds are so vast. Our children enjoyed exploring them - especially the tunnels at Quinta da Regaleira. Although the driving along the nearby steep and narrow roads was a little challenging at first, we got used to it quickly, and found other drivers to be patient and understanding. We were able to manage without a car on a few days, walking to Quinta da Regaleira and down into Galamares to catch the vintage tram to the beach at Praia das Maçãs. Monserrate Palace is also wonderful and walkable from the house. We also spent a day in Lisbon (parked and rode the Metro from Reboleira) and one of the highlights was our catamaran trip from Setúbal to see the dolphins who live in the Sado estuary, driving back through the stunning Parque Natural da Arrábida. An amazing holiday and Quinta da Matalva was a delight."

  • A Portugese retreat

"We had a wonderful welcome and nothing was too much trouble for our hosts, they even guided us to the local shop and took us to the venue for the wedding we were attending. The appartment was beautifully clean and we enjoyed the gardens and swimming pool. Sintra is a place to spend time exploring. We need to return as there is so much to see."
