  • Perfect stay on the most beautiful place of Scotland

"We stayed at the Backrest half April for our honeymoon. The location of the house is very good. The view is stunning, looking over the bay and the hills. The sheeps around the house and watching the seals in the "frontyard" was very entertaining. The Backrest was provided with everything needed give us a splended week. It was clean, very nice decorated and very comfortable. From the Backrest we were able to visit all the highlights of Skye, all within a reasonable driving distance. The Old Man of Storr, Neistpoint, the Talisker distillery, the Fairy Pools or one of the many other beautiful places, it was great to visit them all. Overall we would recommend the Backrest for a holliday on Skye. Not the least for the simple reason that the ower Mette is providing great information and tips before and during the stay. Thanks Mette for the great week! Frederik & Elfriede"

  • Very quiet and comfortable for a good price

"My wife and I stayed here with two friends in January, and had a wonderful time. It is a very quiet location overlooking the ocean at a distance, and is a convenient location for exploring the Isle of Skye. I loved sitting at the table and watching the sunrise as sheep walked along the road outside. And the view of the ocean was beautiful. We stayed for 3 days, and the WiFi didn't work at all though I tried numerous troubleshooting steps. I contacted the housekeeper who relayed my message to the owners. They responded very quickly and were very helpful, but we never got the Wifi working during our stay. It was a little problematic because there is no phone signal near the cottage. However there is a small rec center down the road that has Wifi which we occasionally used. Also, the cottage uses electric heat that is barely sufficient in the downstairs of the house. However the bedrooms and den stay very warm if you keep the doors closed. The fireplace would have been useful, but there were no convenient places to buy wood. A bonus is that Glendale is a dark sky region of Scotland, so the night sky was incredible! I could see the Milky Way with the naked eye, and I even caught a glimpse of the northern lights on camera. Overall it was a great time. I certainly plan to stay here again in the future."

  • A wonderful cottage in a fantastic location

"We were looking for a Christmas getaway and we certainly were impressed with Tides Reach. Warm and cosy with the log burner burning whilst the winter winds were blowing outside. Watching the otters, ducks and herons from the couch. When the winds calmed down we explored the island. Hikes in the winter sun followed by a couple of pints in the local, by the fire. Were home almost four days now and I still imagine waking up and opening the bedroom curtains of Tides Reach. THE VIEW!! The admin.. Easy to book. Excellent directions and access. Heating was good and the shower excellent. The Kitchen appliances are good and the bed comfortable. Spoke with Mike recently regarding left items and he’s extremely helpful. We would love to return someday."

  • Spacious, well appointed, comfortable. Lovely location and excellent views across to the mainland.

"Skye is such a beautiful holiday destination and if you happen upon good weather, is a gem of a place. A great deal of both private and public investment has dragged the island into the 21st Century and Napier House is an example. It offers high quality accommodation in a lovely setting. Fine dining, good pub food, local coastal walks are all on the doorstep. It takes time to drive around the island to its numerous attractions, so factor that into your calculations. Weather is a dominating factor in any visit to Skye so appropriate clothing and footwear is essential. In mid March we had only one day wiped out by the weather. But Napier House provides a warm and comfortable nest when the Atlantic squalls sweep in."
