  • Spacious apartment in superb location

"Paola was lovely to deal with and provided some great tips for for sightseeing. She was always on hand to answer questions and help make our stay a pleasant one. The apartment has lots of space including a very big balcony. It is very well located for all of the main areas to visit, the beaches, the arts & science museums and old town. We found we did not need a car and were able to walk or cycle to all the main areas of interest. The reclaimed parkland in what used to be the main river (Turia) flowing through the centre of the city was interesting to walk or cycle along with the zoo at one end and the marine park at the other end.The price of hiring an adult bike for a whole day varied from 7 euros to 12 euros so do shop around. We found the cheaper ones were next to the science museum. Photographs of the arts and science museum area do not do it justice and while we were there they were filming Doctor Who so you can imagine the whole area looks futuristic. And in a way this is what makes Valencia a great place to visit as you have the modern, mixed with the old town with lots of narrow streets to wind your way along, broad avenues where small parks for the children are in the middle and then there is the huge beach. So pretty much something for everyone. There are plenty of restaurants in the local vicinity (for example we had a good meal in the Lebanese restaurant, Beirut) but also make the effort to visit Casa Montana in jose benlliure in the backstreets running parallel to the beach. No sea view of plaza to look out on but the food and wine in front of you makes up for it! We have travelled on holiday to many places around Europe including Spain but Valencia is one place we would definitely have on our list to return to one day and Paola's apartment is the perfect place to stay."

  • super nice host...great apartment

"this apt is much more interesting (& less stark) than in the photos...architectural details like the large wooden ceiling beam and wooden shutters with old hardware add a lot of charm the flat feels smaller than the photos convey and it isn't super bright (at least not in november) but it is very appealing and cozy and it's enough space for 2 people though there is no longer a sofa as in the photos. there are several comfy chairs in addition to the chairs around the table. the internet is fast and reliable...i had only 1 dropped connection in 10 days working most of each day and watching videos some of the evenings (only a tiny amount of buffering now and then) very comfy bed and choice of bed pillows (i swapped out the very firm, tall ones - memory foam? - for softer and flatter ones) the 2nd bedroom is only accessible through the 1st bedroom, fyi kitchen is adequate for basic cooking though there's only a small amount of counter space and the sink is small. a little challenging washing pans that barely fit inside the sink but definitely possible! :) i LOVE the fact that this kitchen has a gas stovetop. i just really hate electric cook tops. lovely rain shower...the interior space in the shower is approximately 82cm/32in x 63cm/25in - it didn't feel too small to me but with the rain shower coming out in the center it can take a bit of maneuvering to get out of the water stream to soap up being on the first floor is fantastic for not having many stairs to climb but buildings nearby on the narrow streets block out the sky. (this is the case in most apartments in the historic center, not just this one.) you can see very small bits of sky if you stand right by the windows and a bit more on the juliet balcony off the bedroom. my first thought was to raise the blind that's covering that balcony but there are many windows facing you across a very narrow street so the blind stayed down and made the bedroom a bit dark/closed off feeling. rebeca is super nice and lives in the building. i never ran into her but it was nice knowing she was close by if i had needed anything the location is perfect - only a few min walk to all in the historic center of valencia. in addition to recommending this flat i also highly recommend a nearby casual bar/restaurant called bocatin. the warm, friendly, and helpful proprietors steered me towards the menu choices that allowed me to avoid gluten and they even offer gluten-free beer! the canonigos salad is SO good."
