  • Thoughtfully laid out property, finished to a high standard: best agriturismo we’ve stayed in

"Firstly, Elisabeth is extremely helpful and welcoming. Nothing was ever too much trouble and she always had a smile on her face. The property itself is extremely well-designed and well-finished. Often agriturismo properties are just a renovated house with a pool plonked into whatever space was available. However here, it was extremely well thought-out. Each apartment has its own outside dining area, which is not overlooked at all due to the landscaping. The fixtures and furniture are to a high spec, as were the bathrooms and the kitchen. The pool is fabulous – especially considering the size of the property – and often we found ourselves to be the only ones there. It faces west and the sunsets are incredible. The location may be a little remote, but that shouldn’t put you off. Some of the roads are unpaved in the area and other windy so it can take longer than you think, but Siena, Pisa, San Gimignano and even Florence are all within driving distance for a day trip. My wife and I stayed with her parents who were over from the US. The two of us have visited Tuscany several times, and so we were quite happy to avoid the big tourist areas, and do wine tours in Chianti and Carmignano (visit Tenuta di Capezzana). There some good local restaurants within a 10-15 minute drive. We especially liked Casa Masi and La Rocca (in Castelfalfi). Geo-thermal heating/AC keeps the apartments at 24 degrees Celsius, no matter what the temperature is outside. It can get a little warm at night, but there are fans provided and you can open the windows. There is no proper AC, but generally this is not necessary. Tip on arrival: Follow Elisabeth’s instructions and arrive from the west side, using Via di Monti. My in-laws followed Google Maps and came down the track (the southern fork of Via Poggetta) from the east, which should not be tackled in anything other than a tractor! I would not hesitate to recommend this property."

  • Excellent value with a warm welcome.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our week in 'Otello'. We were very comfortable, & thought the apartment was good value. It has the best of both worlds - close to the city centre with access to trams & buses, yet tucked away in a quiet street. Paola & Andrea gave us a warm welcome, made every effort to make sure we were comfortable, & supplied a great deal of visitor information. Gwen & Geoff Ryan."

  • Traditional Cretan Life

"Stunning villa set over 3 floors. Each room is traditionally decorated to the highest standard and the gardens are huge! Surround by olive groves and a small vineyard with goats roaming in the fields near by this villa is traditional and real if you are looking for a local experience. The hosts could not be more helpful and will be waiting for you on arrival with a fresh meal and if your lucky some delicious orange cake! We travelled the island while we were here and would definitely recommend here over Chania. Just our personal taste but Rethymno has everything Chania has but with less tourists no haukers and more vibe due to the Crete university. The villa is also ideally located for quick raids into other regions and some of the best tourist sites the South of Crete has to offer. Within 20 mins drive you could be in world class beaches, breathtaking mountain restraunts or the old city of rethymno which is so alive you have to experience it for yourself. You don't even have to leave the villa to have a special experience. The sunsets over the mountains from the bedroom balcony are worthy of a Shakespeare sonnet! The pool is clean and fresh with a shallow section for little kids. The views wherever you go will put a smile on your face regardless of which corner you lay your hat on. I would absolutely recommend this villa and would not hesitate to stay here again."

  • Piscine spectaculaire, accueil chaleureux.

"L'appartement à l'étage, doté de deux chambres fermées et d'un troisième lit dans le salon, dispose d'une vue imprenable à travers une baie vitrée. La piscine est également très jolie et bienvenue lors des chaleurs de l'été italien. Cependant, l'accueil d'Alessandro et de sa famille est sans doute ce dont nous nous souviendrons le plus. Grâce à lui, nous avons pu visiter des fabriques de vinaigre balsamique traditionnel et de miel. Nous recommandons vivement cet appartement. Philippe"
