  • Wutta GEM!!!

"I always wondered what it would be like to actually live (if only for one week in our case) in a home out of the pages of Architectural Digest. NOW I KNOW...fabu!! Having been through a few remodels myself, I can only imagine the headaches that must have come with ALL of the design decisions made in creating the perfect home base environment to enjoy a stay in San Antonio, San Miguel de Allende. The amenities are, to understate, too many to enumerate but, suffice to say, everything you need to accomplish on your WILL be able to! Casa Fortuna is positioned in a residential area outside the central zone and is a healthy hike or a short AND cheeeeep taxi ride away from shopping, restaurants and all attractions. We are told that SMA is usually a fairly sleepy little town made even milder by the super laid back attitudes of the locals. We arrived on Christmas Eve eve and stayed until New Years Day...& honestly it was bedlam (in a pretty good way, I guess) although, it might be nice to return when it's not such a celebration. Really, people came into town from ALL over, and it was basically mobbed...Times Square in NYC has nuthin' on this place during a holiday week!!! Casa Fortuna is on the edge of a very active community in San Antonio...people out at all hours (except mornings), dogs barking through the night, roosters crowing at dawn through mid-morning, fireworks, parties, loud bangs (???) proliferated while we were there. Luckily, we brought earplugs and used them! Norma & Lupe were just great...going above & beyond. Norma even arranged to have the rooftop terrace fireplace working a couple of days before departure and we REALLY enjoyed it up there. In December you need a fire to take the chill off the morning and evening temps which are coolish. Totally in the spirit of aiming for perfection we aren't fans of the solar water heating system. We could operate it well enough on our end, but it's hardly efficient from a user standpoint. It takes 3-5 minutes to actually get hot water out of the shower, wasting a LOT of precious Mexican filtered water. The pressure isn't great but passable AND, the lovely bathtubs are clearly for show ONLY. With no hot tub on the amenities list when we booked, I was deliriously happy to see two big soaking tubs for my daily, lengthy bath with book & wine. Soooo sad when it became obvious that baths were not on the agenda due to extremely slow water flow & non-working drain plugs. A memorable stay."

  • Jean Paul and Shannon are precious!

"Cute, cozy and charming place. The owners deserve a 10 stars review, they went about and beyond to accommodate our needs. We wish we could have stayed longer."

  • A central city find

"Seven of us had a wonderful stay at this villa, and I would not hesitate a nanosecond to return (probably with a largish group). The location is very convenient. The villa is about two level blocks from Parque Juarez, a city park with play activities for children, a running course for adults, and on the Sunday we were there an art fair. It is about a 8 -10 minute uphill walk to El Jardin, a central beehive of activity, especially near the Christmas holidays. The grounds are beautiful. The house itself is quite comfortable and spacious, and looks like the pictures on the web site. I think we counted four dining areas. Each of the six bedrooms has its own bathroom. Four of the bedrooms are wonderful, especially the master suite. The remaining two are smaller and much more sparsely furnished, but adequate. Although the two rooms had limited hot water, the owner is renovating the property this winter and that concern should be remedied. The owner is quite helpful and responsive. Although we were not used to having personal staff, Sergio and other staff soon made us appreciate their presence. They kept the place clean. They sought to respond quickly to our requests, But best of all, they cooked several meals for us which were delicious. The one downside is that they don't speak English and only one of us spoke any Spanish, and that was basic. Staying at the villa added significantly to enjoying our stay in San Miguel de Allende and I highly recommend the property"
