  • The Great Escape!

"My wife and I just spent two weeks at Casa Chepito with my daughter and her husband, and we had a wonderful time. The house has ample space both indoors and out so we could all be there together, or do our own thing. As others have described, the walk to town is easy and we took a variety to different routes / to explore the colorful narrow streets. In town, I found a piano at Belles Artes to practice on and my wife found a 25-meter lap pool just a short walk from the house. Using the pool costs $6 per day. Mostly, we took advantage of the usual attractions of SMA -- concerts, plays, great restaurants, day trips or just sitting in the jardin to people-watch. Ann and Jeff had excellent advice about where to eat and shop and what musicians to look out for. One night, they helped us arrange a dinner for 9 people, with chicken mole made by an excellent local cook. The cost was ridiculously cheap. They also turned us onto a fabulous Cuban pianist who has played with the Buena Vista Social Club. The only caveat is that Casa Chepito would not be the best choice for someone with mobility issues since there are a lot of stairs. We didn't mind since we like to get exercise while on vacation, but it could be a challenge for others. Of course that is true of all of SMA, which is famous for its historic and attractive -- but challenging -- cobblestone streets."

  • Simply the Perfect Spot in San Miguel

"After the long trip from New England we were greeted by Jose, the wonderful, earnest property manager letting us know upon arrival that we were in good hands. He introduced us to the space complete with fresh flowers, fruit and wine. This was our first trip to San Miguel. We've already planned our return and will come back to Casa de la Puerta Rosa because I can't imagine a more perfect setting. It's very well and tastefully appointed with an open, sunny living space, a fireplace in the master bedroom, comfy beds and a great rooftop patio. The space is not hotel-like or formal, but rather inviting and comfortable, making it really feel like a home away from home. It's located on the level and close to the Jardin and all the action, yet secluded on this sweet little street with friendly neighbors and no traffic. There are also nice neighborhood shops right there, like a bakery and a great little breakfast spot as well as the vast Mercado de Artisanias, an indoor market place with tons of food stalls and local crafts. This spot struck just the right balance for us, letting us experience living in a local neighborhood like a resident while feeling safe and competent to come and go easily. Laurie, the owner, was a pleasure to deal with--very responsive and helpful as we worked out our plans. We look forward to our return and would recommend this location to anyone."

  • NinaA

"Our group thoroughly enjoyed staying at this beautiful property. Ideal location for sightseeing, eating and immersing oneself in everyday San Miguel life. The Apartment is beautifully decorated and very comfortable with a wonderful courtyard and pleasant rooftop area. Close to many sightseeing locations and churches (Church bells will call to you), walking everywhere was a joy. Barbara and her staff are wonderful to work with. The people of San Miguel are such a joy to be around. We will be going back. Thank you Barbara!"

  • Great place

"The apartment was great! Clean and neat, it had everything. Location was fine for me but for older folks it may be a bit far form centro. Taxis are cheap and easy to get. I would love to return!"
