"Once in awhile when traveling, you come across a place that grabs your heart and spirit so completely, that you know you will return there again and again. Casa Heloc is one of those places that from the moment you open the door, until you close it with reluctant goodbyes, you know you will never forget your stay. So what sets it apart? There are the obvious things: the 360 degree view from the rooftop deck looking down onto the centro of San Miguel, watching the morning sunrise, the art work beautifully displayed throughout the house, the magnificent and fully stocked kitchen, the courtyard off the living room for starlit dinners, and Lupe, housekeeper extraordinaire, who kept the place spotless! But what really struck us about Casa Heloc was that it really felt like a home to us, that kind of cozy ambiance of a place where you actually want to spend time just enjoying the space. We loved our exploring of San Miguel and outlying areas, but we were always delighted to come home again. We really felt like we were part of the community that surrounded us, always greeted with friendly Hola's, hearing the local music at night, the kids playing in the street, the occasional braying of the neighbors donkey or rooster, mothers walking their children to school, the calls of a street vendor passing buy. All of it, made it so special. And then there is Walter, the street dog...affectionately known as "The Mayor of Santa Julia", who completely stole our hearts. Thank You Janis for opening the doors of Casa Heloc to his very welcomed visits. So if you are looking for that special place to hang your hat while taking in the beauty and charm of San Miguel, then We absolutely recommend this home."
