3 1/2 months is too short a visit to SMA!

This is our second visit to San Miguel and we looked forward to our stay at Casa Azteca. Our first visit was in the middle of centro, so this area was new to us and expanded our horizons. At the bottom of the hill is a huge market. It is a delight to find your favorite vendor and buy the affordable, fresh fruits, vegetables and hot tortillas. Just below that is a huge artisans market. I love flowers and filled the rooms with color at a nominal price. Small stores 1/2 block away are convenient when you do not wish to carry milk or heavy items up the hill. (Walk slowly up the shady side and do not be embarrassed to stop and rest!) The cab prices at this time are 40 pesos during the day and 50 pesos at night. (Prices have gone up slightly as the price of gasoline is higher.) What a bargain! Write the name of the street down until you can pronounce it! Andy and Dorothy were extremely responsive to any need, and were a great resource especially when we needed to find an elusive item such as watch batteries. Our housekeeper, Angelica, is truly an angel and keeps the casa spotless. She is organized and efficient. Although she speaks little English, we found that a plus as we are both studying espaniol. The longer we stayed in the house, the more we enjoyed it. The terraza is perfect for morning coffee and a glass of wine in the evening --or anytime! Mornings often you will see hot air balloons and the sunsets are spectacular. We just viewed our nightly spectacle a few minutes ago and marveled that no two are alike! I love to cook and the kitchen had most everything I needed. We had a few, small, adult parties and there is a great kitchen island and plenty of space. The downstairs bedroom is very large and we enjoyed the fireplaces on the chilly evenings. Upstairs you can sleep with a view of the city below! The atrium fills the house with light, and I became quite attached to the wooden statue, whom I called St Francis. Now, as to the question of noise......San Miguel is a noisy, lively city. We just finished traveling for 7 months in Europe and noise in cities is a fact of life. If you want peace and quiet, go to the countryside. Church bells, dogs, roosters and other birds vie for auditory attention. And yes, the lovely, old door opens up to the sidewalk as do 95% of all doors in SMA. Tourists flock here for good reason: it is an amazing city! We thank Andy and Dorothy for their friendliness and hospitality!
