  • infusion of gorgeous character for your senses

"This was our third time at this property, the first in too many years. It's not new -- it's full of character and that's what makes it so special. Flowers of all colors are everywhere, the rooms are painted in the Mexican tradition -- with lime wash and lots of colors -- and filled with interesting folk art. The patios - one on the main floor, one near the lime tree that supplies your limonadas and margaritas and the one on the rooftop overlooking the churches and colors of the city and then the soft, rolling hills of the countryside - all offer respite from the bustling mercado and walks up and down cobblestones streets which are literally right outside your door. The rooms are also quite nice for siestas! (My favorite is the blue room across the patio from the kitchen). Juana makes you feel at home, especially if you can speak a little Spanish. She is not only an amazing cook, she'll patiently correct your Spanish in her kitchen or at the market shopping with her at her favorite stalls for the ingredients for a special meal. Meals include chicken mole, all kinds of enchiladas (Juana tells you that the best tortillas for enchiladas are from the lady with the basket right inside the main market entrance), potato pancakes with homemade salsa (especially popular with teens and kids), guacamole, chiles rellanos, etc. San Miguel itself is a feast for the senses. Church bells, seemingly random parades celebrating numerous saints, film festivals, lectures, art galleries and museums, archeological tours, day trips to Guanajuato or Querataro or beautiful natural springs at La Gruta (or the natural spring fed Xote water park for the kids). Spanish classes, opportunities to volunteer and give back, and art classes, too. You won't regret your stay here -- will make a lifelong connection with this place."

  • Carl and Barbara and quests

"This was our third prolonged stay at this wonderful house in SMA, and we are already reserved for eight weeks next year. The house is very well outfitted and is extremely comfortable. When we are not out enjoying the charms of San Miguel the gardens and outdoor spaces are a relaxing haven. Watching the sunset from the upper deck is truly spectacular. Veronica takes very good care of us and laughs (in a good way} at our attempts at Spanish. We look forward to our return next year."

  • Very beautiful home and views in a very Mexican style

"We have rented homes in San Miguel a number of times, and this house is easily our favorite. It is a very comfortable Mexican style oriented around beautiful outdoor spaces. The focus is around the west-facing terrace that provides a 30-mile view. The location is high on the hillside in Balcones. The staff is wonderful and helpful, and Trini is a really great cook. Anything you ask, they'll happily take care of. Separate bathrooms in the master suite, US/Canada TV, wifi, very nice workout room, purified water. Check the pictures. Downstairs is another complete outdoor area by the pool, including a bar. Fantastic place to entertain. The entire house is full of beautiful artwork and Mexican folk art. Ten minute downhill walk to the Jardin."

  • Beautiful, Art-Filled and Perfectly Located

"My husband and I returned to San Miguel after our first trip in 2012. This time we were with two couples who had not been to the City. On our recommendation, we stayed again at Casa Pina, where we had stayed in 2012. The other four were seasoned travelers, and so we held our breath, hoping that they would love Casa Pina as much as we had the first time we were there. We needn't have worried. They were as charmed as we were, and thanked us many times for bringing them to this magical home. Maria and Theresa, the cook and housekeeper, were there again, and were again attentive to our needs . . . and patient with our lack of Spanish speaking skills. Again, we did not take advantage of the lunches that they would have provided, but enjoyed their wonderful breakfasts every morning, as well as one dinner prepared at our request. The house was also beautifully maintained and picked up for our return each late afternoon or evening. Aleida, the owner, was also available to answer any questions that we had, as was the English speaking property manager. The location of the house is without peer. Within 1 1/2 blocks of the Jardin, and very near to the action while being very quiet and secluded. The design and decoration of the house are also very special. Three very private bedroom areas gave each couple all the privacy that they might want, while the common areas (particularly the living/dining room that is open to the courtyard, gave ample space for our time together. A second living room and dining room are available, but seldom used because we didn't want to leave the open air living area and large fireplace - perfect for eliminating any early morning or evening chill. In addition to the ample private areas, the Wi-Fi helped those of us who had to do a little work while we were there."
