Nayarit: discover the home of tequila
It might be an outdoor enthusiasts' paradise, but attractions are a little thin on the ground in Nayarit. Fear not. Just down the road from your Nayarit vacation rental is the pretty city of Puerto Vallarta which punches well above its weight when it comes to things to see. Its diversity of museums is extraordinary, with subjects that range from naval history to tequila. Just outside of town, the Vallarta Botanical Gardens have a marvelous collection of orchids as well as other exotic flora. Before you return to Nayarit, don't skip grabbing a bite to eat at one of the waterfront restaurants on Vallarta Marina.
Adventures are found in Nayarit
There are simply too many things to near your Nayarit vacation rental to list them all here. Most of the activities are focused around the sea – sailing adventures on private yachts, diving into the water to swim with dolphins or have close sea lion encounters and driving down to the surfing town of Sayulita to practice your pop up. On dry land, you could kick off the sunny mornings on the world-class golf courses and later in the afternoon you can get the adrenaline rushing by flying through the treetops on zip-lines, galloping across the beaches, or racing on the back of ATVs.
Jet into Nayarit for a little winter sun
The most comfortable time to stay in a Nayarit vacation rental is between December and March, when the temperature hits the low 80s in the day, but the evenings are cool. The sea temperature dips a little over winter, but it's still perfectly comfortable for swimming or water sports. A little later in the season, the prices of rentals takes a dip between April and June, the temperature begins to increase and the crowds thin out leaving long stretches of sand available for the taking. If you don't mind the afternoon rainfall, you can score some rock bottom prices if you visit in fall.
Resident crocodiles and manta rays in Nayarit
On the face of it, there doesn't look to be much in the way of wildlife in Nayarit but dig around a little you can grab peeks at plenty of land-dwelling and marine critters. If you're a birdwatcher, go on the search for the endemic San Blas jay, which often tops birders' most wanted lists. Don't jump into the state's lagoons or you may very well get a little too close to one of the resident crocodiles, a magical creature to see from a safe distance. Dive down under the water to spot giant manta rays and gentle and completely harmless whale sharks.
