  • Excellent location with great view while still just above the center of town & close to the beach

"The location of and views from the house are excellent. It is only a block or so above the zocalo and two more short blocks from the beach (5 min walk); yet it is high enough to have a great view over town and up the coast and to feel removed from the hustle and bustle of town. The pool next to the house is a smaller pool meant for cooling off on hotter days. The big pool is down one and a half levels and is great for swimming and kid's play. The house is an older, comfortable place with an open kitchen and living area and adjoining terraces that easily accommodated our extended family group for meals and just hanging out. On the main level within the house the only way to the master bedroom is through the second bedroom and the shared bathroom. Each room, however, has an outside door to a covered terrace so the solution is to use the terrace as the hall. The third bedroom is a separate unit below and behind the main house with a partially separated kitchenette and eating/living area and bath. It is not fancy, but with a double bed, bunk beds and a couch, it can sleep a crowd. There are lots of stone steps down to the big pool and further down to the street requiring some vigilance with kids. Casa Vista Alegre was a great place for our extended family of grandma and grandpa, uncle, mom and dad and three grandkids. It was easy for everyone to come and go to town and the beach and to hang out at the pool or around the house."

  • A true getaway

"Nowadays, true getaways are hard to come by. Most vacations I had been on before with families and friends were always fun, but always a commercial experience. Mar Al Cielo was not one of those experiences. It's original, genuine, and breathtaking. Jodi and Carlos and the team were unbelievably accommodating, and really appreciated just how blown away my wife and I were on our honeymoon. And although this place is secluded and private and nested up on a mountain (feeling a million miles from civilization), there was never a dull moment. My wife and I spent a week here, and we could have spent 51 more weeks there no problem. Mar Al Cielo has a lot to offer, it was tough to choose what to do even with a completely open agenda. You could spend days hiking around your 11 acres of hilly and junglesome land, or walk down to the beach with a 6-pack, chips and guacamole. You could go snorkeling or horseback riding, or even on a whale tour to name a few easily accessible activities. Every night we had no problem taking in a real Pacific sunset as it dipped into an ocean with no end which was essentially our front yard for the week. One night we decided to get a sunset dinner made by Chef Carlos himself (which I highly recommend, no offense to my wife's cooking which was phenomenal as well *cough *cough) which came with the whole 9 yards of margaritas, a beautifully obscure cut of steak paired with a sauce (which my wife and I tried to replicate and came nowhere close, she is still a great cook though) that was to die for, an amazing desert, and wine, sorry I am going off about it but it was unbelievable. In the city of Lo De Marcos, you can feel welcome while amongst true locals. There was no such thing as a tourist there because everyone who came from out of town was truly accepted. The lodge itself was worth the whole stay, feeling just enough outside allowing you to enjoy the weather, with the comfort of being indoors, enjoying the beautiful views and a bed that might as well have been made out of clouds. We enjoyed many star-filled nights in the outdoor bathtub, and shared too many laughs situated in the outdoor kitchen and lounge which is also solely yours through-out your stay. The second we left was also the second we were trying to figure when we could come back."

  • heaven on earth

"this was my third trip to Sayulita and my first time staying in Casa Carrollena. I will never stay anywhere but there! It is not only in the best location, close to town but away from the crowds, it was safe and it has every modern amenity you could want. It was a 5 star experience. The owners and operators are dedicated to your having a wonderful time in there home. They are easy to reach and responsive to every communication. I cant wait to go back."
