  • House is average, but the location is AMAZING

"At Casa Gray, the house itself is an older building with older plumbing, older decor, and minor wear and tear that you might expect for a house of its age in a humid, sandy, salty location. But let's talk about that location - the house is Right.On.The.Beach. 30 feet from the back door, and you're in the waves. Very quiet, very peaceful, private (thanks to the groomed mangroves), and we felt totally safe. You basically have a little stretch of beach all to yourselves, plus a pool right out the back door, which is unheated and cooler than the ocean water, but refreshing on hot days. It's a basic, simple beach house, but it's very clean, virtually pest-free (which is hard to do in that climate and that close to the water), and you have a housekeeper and groundskeeper that come every day except Sundays. Marisol will sweep, mop, make beds, and wash dishes daily. Jose sweeps the outdoor porch area and clears your beach of seaweed daily. Jose cooked a large delicious meal for us one night - fajitas, beans, rice - and we had leftovers for days. There is a foot wash by the back door, plus outdoor shower spout and hose for cleaning off sand. The air conditioning units in all the bedrooms seem brand new and work really well. The rest of the house doesn't have AC, but if you open all the windows, you get an awesome breeze throughout. The kitchen appliances seem new, though the gas oven doesn't cook hot enough. We found the outdoor BBQ to be unusable; if it was replaced, that outdoor bartop would be awesome. Beach furniture is in good condition, though it looks like there was a hammock that broke and hadn't been replaced. There are safes in every bedroom. Bottom line: I can only give it 4 stars, because of the few minor things we wished were in better condition. If you're looking for absolute luxury, this isn't it. But with a few upgrades - new windows and sliding doors, new outdoor bbq, guest access to laundry, better overall linens and towels - this place would be absolutely STELLAR for a simple, quiet beach retreat vacation."

  • Beautiful, spacious and comfy

"Beautifully decorated and furnished, this condo was spacious and clean. I would recommend renting a car if you are more than 2 people, so that you can comfortably travel up and down the road, enjoying local beaches, restaurants and shops. We rented bikes one day and really enjoyed thoroughly touring the area. This was our first stop on a whirlwind tour of the Mayan Riviera and we were lucky to have great advice from the Manager. He was helpful and easy with booking arrangements and ironing out any kinks that came up. We felt very safe and cared for."

  • Perfect spot for our family

"We stayed at the condo March 30 - April 7, 2016. We are a family of 5 with 3 boys 9 and under. This was our first time renting through VRBO and our first time travelling to Mexico. We had a fabulous time - and would recommend it to everyone. Owners - Peggy was super helpful with answers to our questions before we booked and with maps and lots of information after we booked. While we were there, they were doing some work on the septic system in an adjacent building - Peggy was right on top of it, notifying us that it was going on and asked us to let her know if it interfered with our vacation (which it didn't). Condo amenities - the condo itself was well equipped with everything we needed - basic spices for cooking, along with pots, pans, dishes, bottled water, etc.; beach towels and shower towels; wifi; bedding (although we brought a small blow-up mattress for our youngest child, so he could sleep in the same room as his brothers, rather than on the couch), etc.. The pools were lots of fun and my boys spent at least some of every day in them. For the most part, we had the pools to ourselves, which was also very nice. The grounds are kept very neat and tidy and everyone was friendly and helpful. Location - close enough to the amenities in Akumal (grocery, dive shop, souvenirs, etc.), but far enough away that we didn't have to deal with the crowds of people coming in to see the turtles (unless we were going to see them ourselves - but go early or late in the day ... a lot less people). Plus, able to walk 2 minutes to Yal-Ku for snorkelling (a huge highlight!!). Also easy driving distance to Aktun Chen (kids LOVED the zip lining, cave walk and cenote); Coba and Tulum; Xel-Ha (although we didn't go - too much other stuff to see and do). Finally, I can't talk about the location, without mentioning the snorkeling right outside your door. Fantastic! My kids were new to snorkeling, but had no problems exploring the reefs in Half Moon Bay. Not as many fish as Yal-Ku, but lots of very interesting coral formations and other see creatures. The rocky shore is also lots of fun to explore. Overall, we had a fantastic time and would not hesitate in coming back!!"

  • Very Welcoming

"We spent a week at Casa Gatos. Dave and Dan were very welcoming. The condo is very private and secluded. The grounds as well as the condo were very clean and well tended. You get a homey feeling because of the comfortable setting but also because of the contact with all of the neighbors. Highly recommended. The condo is next to Yal Ku. Unless you enjoy walking you should rent a car because it is a long walk to the main area of town."
