  • Amazing Condo! Incredible views!

"Wow -- this place was truly amazing! The pictures do not do it justice. This condo has the best view of any in half moon bay. We were debating this place or a condo on the first floor by the pool. I am so glad we rented this one. The view was unbeatable. I don't think I've had a better view at any other place I've ever stayed at. The condo was perfect. It had all of the modern amenities but still retained it's local charm. It was great to have filtered water -- had no issues drinking that all week. Air conditioning was great. The onsite staff was great -- very helpful. It was also nice that half moon bay is a bit away from Akumal. Akumal gets very crowded during the day with all the tourists coming to see the turtles. But half moon bay stayed very mellow and not crowded at all. It is on the 4th floor (which make the views great) -- so there is a walk up the stairs. But totally worth it. And most of the time we needed to work off lunch or dinner anyway. And the pool was great for the kids. It looked small in the pictures, but the size was perfect. One of the best pools of any place on the bay. I'd recommend a car - we rented one and were glad we did. Made it easy to get around and there was plenty of parking. Great place! Great staff! Amazing views! You can't go wrong here"

  • Loved it!!

"My daughter and I stayed here for close to a week in Unit 3. It was big and spacious and had everything we needed as far as cooking, towels etc. We loved that we could walk out right to the pool and the beautiful view of the ocean. We were able to walk on the beach, or street side either direction, to go to a restaurant to eat. You could walk 20 minutes towards the little village of Akumal and eat at Turtle Bay Bakery, or enjoy the shops there and the spa. You could also enjoy the beach in that area as well. This condo was in a perfect location, but private enough to enjoy. I think you might be able to rent a golf cart or bikes in the area somewhere to use during your stay. There were lots of turtle eggs on the beach, but every time there was a hatchling we were gone exploring the sights! Hopefully next time we can witness that. The staff at the condo is great and very helpful. Joyce Flake, one of the owners is a gem and will answer any questions you have. I had many via email before our arrival and she was very informative! This is one of the best privately owned places I have stayed at in a long time!"

  • Would visit again!

"In the past few times our family went to Akumal, we stayed at Las Casitas but couldn't book a unit this time. We picked Casa Solymar based on the reviews - it looked classy and had three bedrooms and was walking distance to the main beach. The villa was a little set back from the road and had a lush garden. It was spacious with a great view, and everything was clean. The kitchen was well stocked and even had some oil and spices. The pool was a lot bigger than we thought, a great size for our family. We swam in it a few times a day. It was clean and not over-chlorinated. The villa provided an electric cart which was helpful when we made several trips to the grocery store or decided to go to Yal-ku which was a long walk away. We didn't think it was such a plus point when making our reservation, but it was really a nice convenience. The bedrooms upstairs were a little warm in late March. My bedroom had a faulty AC unit and never cooled down. When I contacted the manager, Monica Estrada, she sent someone to look at it right away, and the AC was replaced that very day. Monica was very helpful. Due to passport issues, I had to arrive two days later than my family and she arranged additional airport transfer. Every time I emailed her, I received a reply right away. Please be aware that the wifi connection doesn't reach the upstairs bedrooms. The beach is very rocky so you can't go swimming there. The view, though, is spectacular. On very windy days, the salt spray can get 100 ft right up to the windows. When we stayed at Las Casitas in the past, we used to tip the housekeeper every day whatever we liked. Here at Casa Solymar, the guest book said to tip the housekeeper and gardener 15% of the cost of the rental. We also felt that being asked to tip the gardener is quite unusual. Shouldn't the maintenance of the pool and garden be factored into the cost of the rental? The villa management should have asked for the rental + 15% upfront instead. The tipping request and amount felt like a hidden fee. Tipping should be optional. We did tip the staff because we wanted to, but didn't tip the 15% and felt guilty that they might not have been paid their fair share. But paying them is the responsibility of the management, not the guests. All said and done, Casa Solymar is a solid five stars and I would go back for a visit. Thank you, Monica, for making our stay a lovely one."

  • Sweet Place, Nice Base for Riviera Maya Fun

"We really enjoyed La Sirena #4. We are at the time of the stay a couple with a 14-year old daughter. The description and pictures are very accurate and give a great idea of the condo layout and features. Everything worked well--Canadian satellite TV, air conditioning and blender most importantly. We spent more time in the pool than expected, as it was really pleasant there. We also snorkeled off the beach and around the corner at Yal-Ku Lagoon. We loved La Buena Vida restaurant on the other side of Half Moon Bay, which had a menu very friendly for our vegan girl. An appropriate request of the mariachi is Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash. The best beer we found was Mondo Maya (from Playa) served in one liter bottles at La Buena Vida. We also enjoyed a meal at Lol-Ha. Our tips include bring surf shoes. Grab some groceries on the way (we stopped at WalMart in Playa. Very cheap bakery there). The air conditioning is solid and the place tight and it keeps the house cool for hours after you turn it off. For take-home good tequila your options are Viva Zapata in Tulum or a couple of places on 5th Avenue in Playa. The unit came with a 5-gallon drinking water bottle. Staff would have replaced it with a new one had we needed replenishment. We loved La Buena Vida restaurant on the other side of Half Moon Bay, which had a menu very friendly for our vegan girl. We also enjoyed a meal at Lol-Ha. La Sirena has around 12 or so condos in the three story building on the beach and four standalone homes around the pool gardens. 2 sets of 3 steps up. The whole place was less than half occupied in mid-summer, and we often had the beach alone. Security Alfredo oversees the complex during the day and police stay near the condo entrance at the junction to Yal-Ku Lagoon during the evenings. The housekeeper tailored cleaning to our schedule and requests (for example, towels, trash and recycling, or one day with a more thorough clean). The condo was very clean on arrival. Wi-fi was outstanding. We caught an arm of Hurricane Earl (landfall in Belize) on our last night. A crew came by and cleared anything that could be windblown from outside and furniture from the sunken living room. Power dropped twice briefly, which was better than we expected at the level of storm. Terry is a thoughtful, communicative host."
