  • Better than EVER expected!

"Right from the first step at booking the experience was wonderful. Alexis was accommodating and very patient with all of our questions. We reviewed many, many other properties before we decided that Casa Playa Del Caribe was the best option - AND WAS IT EVER! Terrific house - we were 4 couples, exceptional beach and Pancho and Mercedes, I cannot say enough. They are incredible, very warm and welcoming. Mercedes is a wonderful cook and we enjoyed all of her meals. The house was very clean. The pictures do not do it justice. We walked into Akumal a couple of times but we were always excited to come "home" - beach was better and food was MUCH better. We are counting the days until our next trip!"

  • Happy place by the ocean

"Every time my wife and I think about our stay in Akumal we smile. We had a very nice stay. The accommodations were perfect for our group of 5. We were two couples and my mom. My mom has dietary restrictions so we cooked everyday. The kitchen had all the equipment we needed to cook our own meals. Our neighbors commented that it always smell so wonderful on our side of the complex. We bought groceries at the Soriana in Playa. The unit was clean and well maintained, the grounds were also very clean. We appreciated the maid service, a small daily tip kept her happy the whole week. We felt safe and secure. From the condo we made excursions to Chichenitza, Coba and Tolum. We also went shopping at Playa and swam with the Turtles at the public beach in Akumal. At night the sound of the ocean and the wind lulled us to sleep. We can't wait to go back!"

  • Better than Described

"Wonderful property! Tons of space, beautiful ocean and jungle views, huge outdoor spaces and a wonderful pool! Our group of 7 had more than enough space for sleeping, bathing, lounging and eating. Located a short walk from terrific restaurants, turtle beach and small shops. We had a number of calm ocean days, and were able to snorkel right out front and see lots of fish, and one octopus! The only challenge for us was the heat - we had high humidity days with temps around 90 degrees - and that limited our activities away from the water. It also made the common areas of the unit (which don't have a/c, unlike the bedrooms) quite hot, especially in the mornings as the sun beat through the windows. Only suggestion would be to have window coverings in the master bedroom and great room to allow better sleep in the morning, and keep things cooler when there is little breeze. We hope to return and staying here again would be our first choice!"

  • Would visit again!

"In the past few times our family went to Akumal, we stayed at Las Casitas but couldn't book a unit this time. We picked Casa Solymar based on the reviews - it looked classy and had three bedrooms and was walking distance to the main beach. The villa was a little set back from the road and had a lush garden. It was spacious with a great view, and everything was clean. The kitchen was well stocked and even had some oil and spices. The pool was a lot bigger than we thought, a great size for our family. We swam in it a few times a day. It was clean and not over-chlorinated. The villa provided an electric cart which was helpful when we made several trips to the grocery store or decided to go to Yal-ku which was a long walk away. We didn't think it was such a plus point when making our reservation, but it was really a nice convenience. The bedrooms upstairs were a little warm in late March. My bedroom had a faulty AC unit and never cooled down. When I contacted the manager, Monica Estrada, she sent someone to look at it right away, and the AC was replaced that very day. Monica was very helpful. Due to passport issues, I had to arrive two days later than my family and she arranged additional airport transfer. Every time I emailed her, I received a reply right away. Please be aware that the wifi connection doesn't reach the upstairs bedrooms. The beach is very rocky so you can't go swimming there. The view, though, is spectacular. On very windy days, the salt spray can get 100 ft right up to the windows. When we stayed at Las Casitas in the past, we used to tip the housekeeper every day whatever we liked. Here at Casa Solymar, the guest book said to tip the housekeeper and gardener 15% of the cost of the rental. We also felt that being asked to tip the gardener is quite unusual. Shouldn't the maintenance of the pool and garden be factored into the cost of the rental? The villa management should have asked for the rental + 15% upfront instead. The tipping request and amount felt like a hidden fee. Tipping should be optional. We did tip the staff because we wanted to, but didn't tip the 15% and felt guilty that they might not have been paid their fair share. But paying them is the responsibility of the management, not the guests. All said and done, Casa Solymar is a solid five stars and I would go back for a visit. Thank you, Monica, for making our stay a lovely one."
