  • Lenny and his Condo are Great, but...

"Lenny was a great host (he even let us borrow his olive oil so we didn't have to make another grocery store run). The condo is right on the beach. We were most impressed with the outside space and location, then the kitchen and living room, and then the bedrooms (I, of course, gave my parents the master bedroom -- it was fantastic). The other two bedrooms were small, but had comfortable beds and pillows. Besides, you're going to this location for the outside space, not the glamorous second and third bedrooms! But, have very low expectations about the entire condo complex. The tennis court was fine (not good, but playable), the pool was okay, but mysteriously didn't have many loungers (thankfully, Lenny has four with the condo, so we didn't have to join the mad dash in the morning to get the 10 that the condo association provides)."

  • Charming Penthouse in Peaceful Area - Part 3

"Road Trips: Go to Chichen Itza if you want to see an amazing example of Mayan ruins…. leave at 6:30 a.m. and arrive by 9:00 cancun time… but alas, 8 Piste time! (They are on central time and Cancun area is Eastern time zone.) Recommend getting there at this time because it was incredible to have the park almost to ourselves… and before the hoards arrived, the hot sun blared and the vendors came out in full force. We did this right… thanks to Jaime’s advice. Then, go to Valladolid on your way home. Stop for lunch at Cenote Zaci…. an amazing Yucatan lunch overlooking cenote…. and they let you go to cenote via the restaurant for no charge. Beautiful!! Perfect for a refreshing swim after a hot morning! Loved everything about it. ALSO… You must go to Isla Mujeres. Charming little island. Easy to access via the Puerto Juarez Ultramar ferry. Go early to mid-morning so the lines aren’t long to park for ferry. If you aren’t parking, it is probably a bit easier. Buy tickets and catch a ferry that depart every 30 minutes. We chose to taxi to Garrafon de Castilla hotel for $5 total. Paid about $3 US for beach club access… chairs, facilities, umbrellas, etc. Amazing snorkeling right off the beach. We brought our own gear, but you can rent if you need to do so. The open-air restaurant there was amazing. Great food, reasonable prices, friendly staff. And… feed the iguanas your left-over tortillas. We caught another taxi to Playa Norte for sunset…. beautiful. Looked like it was busy but cleared out when we were setting up. Right across street is a downtown area… we had an incredible dinner at Stingray… great service… the best of the trip… and the steak tacos were incredible. Ferry back to mainland around 10 p.m. Our THIRD road trip was to Akumal Beach to swim with sea turtles and manta rays. We arrived around 9, parked, rented a locker at Lol-Ha bar and headed out to swim with the turtles. You must swim quite a ways from shore…. so life jackets are definitely recommended. You don’t need a guide. We saw turtles everywhere. A little choppy that day… but so fun. Lunch by the beach at Lol-Ha was nice. It was the most “americanized” of the places we dined. Of course, we weren’t in “hotel zone”… so that wasn’t surprising. Overall: We will return. Loved it. Jaime thought of everything… even a cooler for us and fresh jugs of water! Oh… and the sweet maid, Jaunita… she was like the Mexican grandma I never had."

  • Well Worth the Money

"Awesome beach and very inviting and relaxing pools just steps outside the front door. This condo is in a prime location in the hotel district. Right across the street from the Kukulcan mall which has great shopping and a full service food market. We were able to conveniently stock the condo with all of our needs for preparing our own meals. Also, close to many restaurants and having a bus stop right across the street made traveling up and down the hotel district very easy and very reasonably priced. Fernando, the owner met us on arrival and was very personable and quite accommodating. When we needed additional towels, they arrived almost immediately. Having Fernando living in the Villas Marlin was very comforting. Security at the Villas Marlin was exceptional. Security guards at the entrance of the complex and security beachside ensuring only owners and registered guests could enter. On the beach at Villas Marlin there is a Lifeguard station which also was a nice bonus. The 2 bedroom condo unit that we stayed in was very comfortable and roomy enough for the 5 of us. It is a very servicable unit that could use little updating. The kitchen appliances could be updated. One the two bathrooms had an issue with the toilet and may need to be updated. The shower water seemed to either run very hot or cold and could use some updating as well. All in all, this unit was well worth the money and after a little TLC is given to it, it will be a can't miss spot to stay."
