  • Great location for a quiet getaway

"It was well worth the drive from Cancun. We spent just over a week with a total of 8 people. The house is located about 25 mins. from Mahahual on a rough beach road. The house was perfect for our group (grandparents, kids, and grandkids). It is very spacious with fantastic views, comfy beds, and room to spread out. The beach is quiet and relaxing. There is great snorkeling a short walk up the beach and even better snorkeling a short drive up the beach (also within walking distance if you don't mind the heat). We saw corral formations and a huge puffer fish along with other sea life. There is also a great swim spot just down from the house. The only thing we missed was having hammocks - bring them if you have them. There are plenty of trees to hang them from to enjoy the ocean breeze, salt water, and beach. Mahahual is a great little town with a totally different vibe depending on when you go. It is very tourist oriented during the day when the cruise ships are docked, but at night it becomes a local hang out. There are several good restaurants in town along the malecon and the Mayan Beach Garden up the road has phenomenal food. We also picked up pollo asado from Dona Manuela at the end of the football field that was delicious. Note: There is a lot of plastic refuse on the beaches. It didn't detract from our stay in any way, but is certainly something to be aware of. Our kids were surprised and it has made them more conscious about conservation."

  • a great place to stay, perfect for the two of us

"We dropped our bags and opened the curtains to take in the view: sunshine, palm trees and blue water. Oh yeah. The condo was decorated with lots of local art and fabrics, kitchen had everything necessary to make a meal. A big jug of water on a stand.....Hallelujah! We don't have to lug 110# of water!!! (ok, just a bit of an exagration, but those dang bottles are heavy!) The whole place was immaculate, the towels were big lengths of thick terry, the shower had hot water, queen bed was quite comfortable. The grounds are immaculately kept by Cesar, he works constantly! Also, much appreciated, was the WIFI booster in the room. We had good service in the room and out on the patio when other residents were complaining of spotty service. We had a good time here and would come again."

  • My husband and I rented Yum Botic villa on the Yucatan Coast North of Mahahual

"Yum Botic is VERY private and quiet on a lovely piece of ocean front full of palm trees and flowers. The house itself is very comfortable and well designed so A/C is not needed at least during Fed/March when we were there. The constantly blowing ocean breeze kept things at the ideal temperature. The WiFi worked well and the solar installation provided enough power for normal needs...My husband used his CPap machine and I read most of the night and all was fine. We didn't use blow dryers, toasters or perc coffee so I learned to use the French Press makes MUCH tastier coffee. The beach in front is deep enough to swim in and there ARE two active/live coral heads where you can see colorful fish but you need to ask Lalo ( the caretaker) to show you where they are, its not that easy to spot them. There are plenty of pelicans and frigates fishing around, so the ocean is still productive innthat area. You DO need a car though AND bring your own supplies because Yum Botic is far from any store or restaurant. Luckily the caretakers are incredibly helpful and can prepare very nice dinners from what the surroundings, farm chickens and eggs and they will even drive all the way into Mahahual or Limones to buy meat etc for you but it is a long way... In other words, if you are looking for an unspoiled natural setting and complete will be happy there. I you want to restaurant hop, shop and see lots of activity...better stay in Tulum"

  • Ready to Return!

"My husband I spent a fantastic week at Casa Playa Maya. The location of the house was ideal for us-remote in feel but still accessible to Mahahual for supplies, restaurants and shopping. The beach was perfect with a soft sandy bottom that extends quite far out. While we were there, the wind and waves predominated which made for great wave hopping and cool breezes at night. We rented this house in part because of reports of good snorkeling right off the beach, however, it was too windy for us to experience this personally. We will have to save that for another time! The garden area was lovely with plenty of shade throughout the day. The house itself was very comfortable and well maintained with great views from inside. Amanda and Richard were fantastic hosts. They were very warm and welcoming and showed great attention to many details that made our stay very comfortable. Richard's cooking is fantastic! We had 2 of the best meals we have had in our numerous trips to this part of Mexico. Amanda was a wealth of information as well. Richard also helped us fix a low tire as we were departing which was greatly appreciated as it could have made for a long trip should we have had a flat tire! Many thanks to them both!"
