  • Beautiful, relaxing beach cabana!

"Our family of 5 (2 adults, children ages 13-18) just returned from a 4 week adventure traveling around the Yucatan Peninsula. The first leg of our adventure was a 6-night stay at Casita Dragonfly. If you want to relax and get away from it all, stay at Casita Dragonfly! We spent hours snorkeling, kayaking, and reading on the wonderful palapa porch (with a constant breeze blowing that kept any mosquitos at bay and ensured a wonderful temperature.) Casita Dragonfly sits right on the beach, steps away from the ocean. You need not put on a pair of shoes while there as the property sits right on the sand - although there is enough vegetation that not once did we have sand blowing around. Although the house has wifi, we enjoyed staying unplugged for the most part. Fans and screened windows kept us cool at night, the kitchen is equipped with all you'll need, and there are plenty of tables and chairs spread throughout the house and on the porch so that you're never far away from a place to sip a cool drink and read a good book. We were interested in snorkeling the reef, which is accessible from the beach - a very long swim, but more easily accessed by the kayaks the property provides. Our first two outings to the reef were amazing, flat water and wonderful visibility - sting ray, manta ray, tropical fish, beautiful coral. After those days, it got windy which made the porch even more comfortable, but made snorkeling impossible - instead, we took the kayaks out for long trips, where we were lucky enough to spot a sea turtle and a family of manatees. The town of Mahahual is a 30 minute drive for restaurants and basic necessities, but we preferred to stay at the Casita and away from the cruise ship crowds. While at the Casita, the only other people we ever saw were the wonderfully kind caretakers who checked in daily to make sure we had enough drinking water and that the cistern was full. The owners of the Casita have decorated it with many little touches that make the house extremely comfortable and special. There are colorful, decorative pillows all over and several options for lounging (a hanging bed, a lounge bed in the sun, a hammock and many lounge chairs - both on the porch and on the beach). The five of us had plenty of space to sleep and spread out. The property would also be perfect for two couples to share as there are two distinct sleeping areas/bathrooms-one upstairs, one downstairs. Extremely helpful are the detailed instructions provided by owners."

  • Mother Daughter Trip of a life time

"This place is absolutely amazing. Private beach, just a 10 minutes drive to the cute little town of Mahahual (good shopping, scubba diving, ect). Our Veladors (Sandra and Emanuel) took such good care of us, making us traditional ceveche and cooking us FRESH lobster caught just earlier that day. Arranging for a professional masseuse to come to the house for Massages on the beach. Arranging for us to have a private day tour of the Mayan Ruins, Kayaking a gorgeous pristine lake of 7 colors and finishing the day with a pineapple plantation tour all with food and drinks included for a very reasonable price. After a few days of adventures the roof top dipping pool and tanning lounge was my favorite spot to just relax and enjoy the 360 degree view around the property, with the ocean to the east and the lush green jungle to the west. My mother and I stayed for a week and it almost just didn't seem like enough, I am going to come back and bring all the girls! I would recommend this place to every one of my friends and relatives."

  • Ready to Return!

"My husband I spent a fantastic week at Casa Playa Maya. The location of the house was ideal for us-remote in feel but still accessible to Mahahual for supplies, restaurants and shopping. The beach was perfect with a soft sandy bottom that extends quite far out. While we were there, the wind and waves predominated which made for great wave hopping and cool breezes at night. We rented this house in part because of reports of good snorkeling right off the beach, however, it was too windy for us to experience this personally. We will have to save that for another time! The garden area was lovely with plenty of shade throughout the day. The house itself was very comfortable and well maintained with great views from inside. Amanda and Richard were fantastic hosts. They were very warm and welcoming and showed great attention to many details that made our stay very comfortable. Richard's cooking is fantastic! We had 2 of the best meals we have had in our numerous trips to this part of Mexico. Amanda was a wealth of information as well. Richard also helped us fix a low tire as we were departing which was greatly appreciated as it could have made for a long trip should we have had a flat tire! Many thanks to them both!"

  • Great, quiet property

"Nice condo on the outskirts of town. Well maintained, comfy beds, nice pool, quiet location. The caretakers were great and took great care of the property. About a 10 minute walk into town, or short drive. Right on the water, but not a sandy beach. Good snorkeling right next to the condo, and the kayak was fun to use. Lots of nice beach/beach club areas in town. Great place to relax, and would definitely stay again."
