"This condo is spotless, and though it's only a studio it has all the amenities. I'd forgotten my hair dryer, but found one in the bathroom. If you can't find it, just call the manager, who graciously answers questions and gives advice.
Since this was our first stay in Playa del Carmen we had no expectations or ideas of the best things to do, and restaurants to choose. The condo has a binder from the owners with helpful ideas, there are some great maps available, and a book with notes from previous guests. We loved strolling Fifth Avenue (with its persuasive hawkers at nearly every shop and kiosk) with its many shops, stopping for coffee or gelato, and picking up fruit, pastry, and drinks at the mini-mart and bakery on Fifth Avenue near the condo. There are too many restaurants to recommend, but one of the condo's maps has helpful reviews of restaurants. Our favorites include El Fogon, Lido on the beach (where we sat for hours in lounge chairs enjoying a few cold beers while watching the water activities), La Cueva de Chango (garden setting), Chez Celine, and a little place that looks like it just opened called The White Bar that offered a Taco and Beer early evening special. We had no bad experiences with any restaurants so you can't really go wrong.
We took the ferry to Cozumel for a day and had a four hour tour with a taxi driver who showed us some highlights along the coast.
We also spent a day traveling to Tulum and Coba to explore the Mayan ruins. We'd highly recommend both of these for a day trip.
We stopped at Akumel Beach but it was too late in the day to snorkel in pursuit of turtles, but several people we met said it was their best outing of their trips.
The weather, by local standards, was cold (mid-70's) but the water was warm and we only had one evening of light rain.
Overall, if you have decided to visit Playa - and you should! - this is a perfect place for a couple who isn't looking for room service."
