  • Terrific House

"We spent the last week in October 2016 at this beautiful house. We flew into Cancun, rented a car and spent our first night in Puerto Morales. The next day we drove to Tulum, exchanged our money and stocked up on groceries then drove to the Reef House. We had good, paved roads all the way to Xcalak and felt completely safe. Reef house is a short drive from Xcalak on a well maintained dirt road. Total driving time from Cancun to the Reef House took us about 5 1/2 hours, but it is a beautiful drive with lots to see. The house is great and exactly as described. Spacious, clean, comfortable with beautiful views right on the water. You need to bring groceries, tin foil, paper towels, etc., but the kitchen is well stocked with all the dishes and cooking utensils. We did not use it, but i believe there is a BBQ on property. Bring charcoal. A very nice housekeeper cleans the house each morning. This house is solar powered so leave your blow dryer and curling iron at home. There is no air conditioning in the house, but we did not need it. Between the ocean breezes and ceiling fans we were fine and we never had an issue with power. The house does have good internet service. The bedrooms and bathrooms are well equipped with linens, soap and TP. the house comfortably sleeps six, more if someone wants to sleep on the couch in the living room. There are kayaks and paddle boards available for guests to use. We brought our own snorkel gear and used the kayaks to reach the reef, which is close. We loved it! Saw stingrays, eels and numerous colorful fish. The best part of the house is that it comes with Ben and Esther who went over and above to make our stay wonderful. Ben helped arrange fishing trips, knew all the restaurants and where to snorkel. He checked on us regularly and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. We loved our time at Reef House. Thanks Ben and Esther."

"This off grid inn has 4 units. The owner lives in one. Rob is gracious, delightful and very helpful. I fly fished the salt water flats and my son and husband went diving. The highlight of the experience was meeting the other visitors at the inn. Ixcalak the town is undeveloped and funky yet it has a tiny gourmet restaurant. Fun and worth it for us!"

  • Gem of a get-away!

"We had 11 in our group (extended family) and couldn't have been happier with our stay. The biggest family stayed upstairs, and we used that unit as the communal cooking/eating area. Constant ocean breezes kept everyone comfortable. Morning sunrises were amazing off of the balcony. Phenomenal snorkeling right off the beach out to the breakwater (favorite sightings included queen angelfish, bluehead wrasses, yellowtail damselfish, and a moray eel) . Kitchen was fully stocked with utensils, cookware, and 20L water dispenser. We spent 2 days away - one touring Mayan ruins and another to Belize via boat out of Costa do Cocos for snorkeling at Shark Ray Alley in San Pedro. The 12K road north from Xcalak to Casa del Sol is a bit rough, so the going is slow, but it is well worth it. In Xcalak, Leaky Palapa serves a wonderful dinner, and Costa has great fare/drinks too. The Casa picture must be a few years old, as the surrounding vegetation is more lush and developed now, adding to the tropical ambiance of the area. Sunsets and star gazing are musts from the roof deck. We stocked up on food in Tulum for the week on the way down, and picked up a few extra supplies in Mahahual. Top off your gas when you can. All in all, it was a wonderful trip for everyone (grandparents to the youngest grandchild - age 5). Host/owner did a wonderful job keeping everything maintained, clean, and our trip memorable and entertaining."

  • Lovely apartment on tranquil wild beach

"I wholeheartedly recommend Casa De Suenos for anyone seeking a quiet and beautiful place. We stayed in the upstairs apartment, March 2016. The apartment is well designed, comfortably furnished, well ventilated, with great view of the sea. The beach is just a few paces from the house. Directly in front of the house is a good place to enter the water. On the beach you have the sense of wilderness, endless stretch of beach. The next neighbour north is maybe 500 metres away, and south maybe 100 metres away, so you have the wild beach to yourself. The location is very quiet, remotely far outside of a small village which is itself remote. The house is on the unmade road, which has almost no traffic since there are only a few more houses beyond Casa De Suenos. The kitchen is fully equipped. Every day there is a pick up truck selling fruit, veg, herbs and tortillas. The rooftop is a great place to look out across the jungle, watch the sunset and the night sky. Internet was reliable during our stay. No mobile coverage :-) Everything was super clean and well maintained. The owners Don and Sarah, and caretaker Jane, were helpful and straightforward."
