  • A fantastic week at Akumal Breakers!!

"Just returned from a week at Akumal Breakers, and it was easily one of our best stays in Mexico - EVER! The home is beautiful, clean, well appointed, and the property and location just couldn't be more ideal. I'm pretty sure you could throw a coconut from the back porch of the home and land it in the ocean, that's how close it is to the water. As you can see in the photos, right out the sliding back doors of the home is the wonderful pool (kept clean daily!), no less than three hammocks and FIVE separate seating areas all spread over the most beautiful grounds with sugar white sand and a pristine beach with crystal clear blue-green waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling (with giant turtles!) As far as beach vacations go, it really doesn't get any better than this. We had our three children with us (ages 8, 6, and 3) and the home was perfectly set up for their enjoyment, with an assortment of pool and beach toys already there waiting for us. The interior of the home was ideal as well, with spacious bedrooms, good air conditioning (don't worry when you first get there it may seem hot because each room has its own unit that needs about a day to cool the space, but by the second day it will be frigid :-) and a wonderful living room/entertainment area where we watched movies each night on their modern AV setup (flatscreen TV and the latest/greatest apple TV device!) And last but certainly not least: the wonderful caretakers of the home, Mirna and Luis, made our entire stay as comfortable and enjoyable as we could have hoped. We opted to have them grocery shop and prepare meals for us daily, and their delicious home-cooked Mexican cuisine was a highlight of the trip. The home and grounds were also kept spotless daily, even the sand was raked each morning! It was the best of both worlds: like staying with family and also like staying in a top-notch hotel at the same time! And Lunda, the property manager, was very responsive and helped us with every aspect of the reservation from arrival to departure and everything in between. Highly, highly recommended!"

  • Great Condo with all you could ask for

"This is the first time I really rented a place for holidays which was not a hotel. However I found out that the service is almost as good as in a hotel, but with much more space, a fully equipped kitchen, great spa amenities and at a good price, too. Palma Real is - like mentioned before - not in the most central location. But I found that a good thing, because at the beach you are almost always alone. It's deserted and beautiful and just in front of your terrace. My spouse and I had 5 great days here to kick off our Mexico trip. The hot tub is amazing, the other people in the Palma Real apartment complex are very nice and friendly, and there are always people looking after you: a night guard as well as a guy who cleans and attends the pool etc during the day. I enjoyed that there was a safe in the condo (although it could have been a bit bigger to take the laptop) but it's so well looked after that I didn't mind anyways after some days. This is a safe place with a private beach and a very very clean pool and hot tub terrace. Really great. Little detail the door lock is a code based system, so when you go snorkeling, you don't have to worry where to put the key. I do cook a lot and so I did really enjoy that Derek's kitchen has: -proper knives that actually cut -a lot of kitchen apparel like mixer, blender, toaster, coffee machine etc -amazing gas stove and oven, microwave if you're into that You can pluck fresh coconut off the terrace and it's tasty coconut water if you get one. Derek also left two big containers of fresh water for us which was amazing, as you need plenty for cooking, drinking, brushing teeth etc Overall this is 5/5* on a full scale. Ok there is some weed from the sea, get over it, it's called nature. Still this is great for snorkeling. Ok it's a bit of a walk to downtown and you have to walk around the harbor. I didn't mind, it's a nice walk. The cleaning fee is a bit higher than average, but as a result it is also just really well cleaned. I'd rather pay a bit more and have a tidy place. I can fully recommend this place."

  • Would stay there again

"We had a wonderful time. We loved that the place was nice and quiet. I think on Thursday and Friday we were about the only ones in the pool. We noticed that the hotel next door was packed and people had to reserve pool space early in the day. We were happy not to do that. Also like all the beds/bath – even though we did not use them this time. Next time we will bring our sons and their girlfriends. It will be great that they will have their own space. We also liked that the grocery store was right across the street and it was so cheap. Found great snorkeling a few hotels down. No need for a car – everything was right there – very convenient. .""

  • Romantic, Family Friendly, This Place Has It All

"We traveled to Playa del Carmen as a family of six, grandparents in our sixties, children in their thirties and grandchildren seven and three. Gillian's beautiful condo accommodated us all perfectly. The condo is visually stunning, three large bedrooms, one on the first floor and two on the second and three full bathrooms. The layout meant that we could be together and still have privacy when we wanted a little alone time. The kitchen had everything we needed and although we loved going out to sample the wonderful food we also enjoyed shopping at the Mega, a short cab ride away, and making our own feasts. The dining room fit us all easily and there were plenty of dishes. There was a blender so we could make frozen drinks which we then took out to the amazing patio that faces a private, bird watchers paradise. Each day we identified new birds and our grandchildren also loved watching for the coatis, small furry animals, that passed through several times a day. The pool was clean and large enough to swim in or just to lay on a tube and soak up the sun. A short walk from the condo brought us to a white sand beach that was perfect for walking, sitting or splashing in the waves. The condo came with beach chairs, umbrella and cooler - everything we could want to enjoy the spectacular view. It was also a short walk into Playa which we did frequently. Gillian was so helpful in answering all our questions before we left and Chris, the condo manager, was helpful while we were in Mexico. Playa itself was a lovely place to visit. It felt very safe, it was easy to get around both on foot and using taxis - we never felt the need for a car. The food was excellent from the cheap and tasty tacos directly across the street from the Mega grocery store to the more upscale options along 5th Avenue, a pedestrian shopping and eating area closed to vehicles for many, many blocks. We've been to a number of places in Mexico but this was our first time in Playa. We will be back."
