  • Great to be on the North side of town

"What a nice surprise to find a condo close to beaches and 5th. I had a wonderful stay! Thanks to Deanni who checks in once and awhile to make sure all is good and is quick to resolve any issues. This is a small condo building with many owners living on site so very quiet and friendly. If you enjoy walking, you can walk the beach in both directions as far as you can. I took the bike out and went north on 5th as far as you can go, a good morning ride. The condo has everything for the beach you may need. Thanks again Susan and Doug for a great expereince away from home. Looking forward to next Jan!"

  • Great location on the beach

"We had a great time at Casa Palapa in August 2016. Prior to staying at the property, my biggest reservation was that the owner didn't offer online booking through VRBO's checkout so I wasn't eligible for the "Book with Confidence Guarantee." The pricing seemed competitive for the area, so I felt uneasy about not having the guarantee in this age of scams, but we went forward anyway. Thankfully everything was as pictured and as described with only positive surprises. The home is super clean (the cleaning woman comes every morning but Sunday and spends hours), and the view is amazing! It felt like our own private beach and we did not have any issues with excessive seaweed in August. Snorkeling was great directly in front of the house. The man who takes care of the grounds raked the sand every morning and cut us fresh coconuts to drink from the beautiful grove of coconut trees that surprised us as being the front yard of the house. We didn't see any turtles, but saw tracks in the morning of where some came up to the house overnight. We paid $75 for Pio's wife Luz to cook us dinner the first night. We had 5 adults, and she gave enough food (chicken, cauliflower, rice, veggies, pico and guac for appetizer) for 10 and it was tasty. Unfortunately the fridge didn't feel reliable enough to hold leftovers (I think we lost power one night possibly). My ONLY complaint is really for Mexico in August. It's hot, so the house got very warm and the only place to find relief is in the breezy Palapa (very comfortable there) or the air conditioned upstairs bedrooms. The owner mentioned he is considering putting in a 1st floor A/C unit. If that happens, zero complaints on the house. We may be back some day!"

  • Terrific birthday getaway

"I just returned from celebrating my 60th birthday with my partner and a friend at Luna Encantada in Playa del Carmen. I'm very glad we did, because we were all really pleased with Rich and Jackie's condo. The condo and the complex itself were very clean and carefully managed by a local property management company. Every other day, the condo was serviced and cleaned, beds made and trash taken out. We found the staff very friendly and helpful and they always seemed to be cleaning the pool area and making sure chlorine levels in the pool (the water was always clean) were adequate. Noise levels at the condo were never a problem, especially since all the windows are double-paned. The complex is really convenient to Quinta Avenida (half a block away) and everything it has to offer, but by all means, explore the other streets off QA and everything they have to offer for an even more authentic experience. There is a very convenient taxi stand right at the corner of Calle 6 and QA if you don't feel like walking. And the bus terminal is an easy 5 minute walk away. Rich was very helpful in providing information about getting to the condo, where to eat, things to do, etc. When I had questions, he was quite prompt in replying. If there were any downsides to staying here, we'd have to say that because there is a stretch of coral on the beach at the complex, it didn't really make it a great place to just go and jump in the ocean. It would have been too rocky. But getting to another smoother part close by was no problem. The extra sofa in the master bedroom and one of the guest rooms seemed unnecessary and blocked access to the balcony. It just made those spaces a bit awkward. And the patio also felt like it had too much furniture. More hooks to hang wet towels would be great. When we arrived, Hurricane Earl was just starting to hit south of the Yucatan in Belize. We got some of the outlying storms from it which stirred up a seaweed dump on parts of the beach at Playa. The smell was a little off-putting but we realized that it's just part of life in the tropics. The property owners along the beach were doing their best to remove it quickly, though. We would not hesitate to recommend or return to Luna Encantada."
