  • Wonderful Colonial in Downtown

"My wife and I stayed at Casa de Mosaicos from October 29 through November 5, 2016. We loved every minute spent in this beautifully restored colonial home in Merida Centro. This home has gorgeous authentic tile, huge ceilings, bright colors and tasteful decorations throughout. Casa de Mosaicos retains its original colonial feel with large, wooden doors throughout. The home is wide open and spacious, lending to a feeling of lightness and freedom! One enters the home into a large, beautiful Fourier flanked by a spacious living room area (complete with cable TV!). Beyond is a large dining area, and beyond that a spacious kitchen with all the modern amenities. The enormous master bedroom is accessed via either the living room or dining area. It has a nice en suite with a huge shower. Leading outside from the dining area is a cozy, enclosed patio with a beautiful blue dipping pool. Off this patio is another living area with two twin beds and another en suite bathroom with a huge bathtub! A narrow set of stairs leads up from the patio to a spacious deck area. All the rooms have their own separate air-conditioning units which made things comfortable. Internet worked great too. Casa de Mosaicos is perfectly located on Calle 55 in downtown Merida. Parks (Santa Ana, Santa Lucia), restaurants (Chaya and Aguayo), shopping, history and culture are mere steps away. The beautiful Plaza de la Independencia, flanked by the Catedral de Merida, Palacio de Gobierno and Palacio Municipal, are a few short blocks away. It’s so convenient to experience all Merida has to offer. The owner, Jane, is so responsive, gracious and personable. And we knew that Andrea, the property manager, was always available should we need anything whatsoever. We truly loved everything about our stay at Casa de Mosaicos, and highly recommend it for anyone seeking an authentic, peaceful refuge in the middle of historic Merida!"

"The house was wonderfully equipped for our long-term stay (Linens, cookware, china, even paper products). The house is spacious and has plenty of comfortable furniture both inside and out on the huge, covered patio. The CD and DVD players that were advertised did not work, nor did the TV in the second bedroom. However, The large flat-screen TV (satellite) in the living room had both USB and HDMI ports to accommodate most any electronics you bring with you. The beach is beautiful, and for most days through the winter, practically deserted. Sun tanning in the loungers can be either on the beach or on the front deck. The house is 1 1/2 km from the village of Chuburna where we would walk to buy supplies or to stop at a restaurant for a drink and wonderfully generous "botanos" (Mexican version of tapas). It is cheap and easy to move around using the small vans (combis). We made at least one trip to Progreso each week for more extensive shopping, and one trip each week to Merida for its culture, sightseeing, or to take a tour to the many nearby, spectacular Mayan archeological sites. We also did 3-day side trips to the nearby cities of Valladolid and Campeche. Everywhere we went, everyone we met was unfailingly friendly, courteous and helpful. People back home could take a lesson from these wonderful people. This was a terrific choice for a long-term stay. It was quiet and peaceful and we got to feel like we were part of a community. Yet, we were only a few short kilometers from any social or cultural activities we might desire. If you are looking for a high-energy vacation surrounded by tourists like yourself, go to Cancun. If you want a beautiful and relaxed setting that is much closer to the "real" Mexico then this is the place for you."

  • Great in every way!

"My partner and I stayed at Casa Pocito for 5 days at the end of June. From the moment we opened the doors, we knew we made the right choice. The Casa is very well appointed with interesting furnishings in a relaxing and warm setting. The plunge pool is a great way to cool down after spending the day exploring the City. The Casa is in a great location. It is a short walk to the Town Centre and other places of interest. Le Negrita is right next store and worth a visit. Pamela arranged for a chef to cook for us one evening. She is a great help if you need advice. Thanks for sharing your Casa, we definitely will return."

  • Cozy, comfortable retreat, very responsive and polite Property Mgmt!

"We absolutely loved our stay at Casa Barenda! The property is tastefully decorated; contemporary yet retaining the Mexican Mayan elements that make Merida so special. Everything you need is within walking distance, and with the convenience of Uber (reserved for those rainy afternoons) we didn't miss having a car at all. The little pool was so fun for our kids and to relax after a busy day of walking. The kitchen, although in our opinion too small for meal prep & cooking for a family of 4, offers everything you need if you were to cook and eat in! With the convenience of having Mercado de Santiago and all the restaurants of Santa Lucia within a few blocks, as well as the extremely reasonable prices, we ate out/ordered in for every meal for a fraction of what it would cost in the States. The rooftop terrace was perfect to have a drink and enjoy the cool afternoon breeze. Our only concern was not realizing that the second bedroom was separate from the main structure, accessible through the pool/courtyard area. It does have a lock and key, but with younger kids we wouldn't have been comfortable leaving them there for the night. The 4 of us ended up sharing the main bedroom, and the kids slept great in their own hammock! Our electric bill wasn't outrageous (the equivalent of ~30 USD for 4 nights), but we were very stingy running the AC's only when needed. We would love to come back once our kids are older and they can have their own room! We definitely recommend this property for couples traveling together, or for families with teenage kids. Thank you Tim and your team at Merida Rentals & Property Management!"
