"The house was wonderfully equipped for our long-term stay (Linens, cookware, china, even paper products). The house is spacious and has plenty of comfortable furniture both inside and out on the huge, covered patio. The CD and DVD players that were advertised did not work, nor did the TV in the second bedroom. However, The large flat-screen TV (satellite) in the living room had both USB and HDMI ports to accommodate most any electronics you bring with you. The beach is beautiful, and for most days through the winter, practically deserted. Sun tanning in the loungers can be either on the beach or on the front deck. The house is 1 1/2 km from the village of Chuburna where we would walk to buy supplies or to stop at a restaurant for a drink and wonderfully generous "botanos" (Mexican version of tapas). It is cheap and easy to move around using the small vans (combis). We made at least one trip to Progreso each week for more extensive shopping, and one trip each week to Merida for its culture, sightseeing, or to take a tour to the many nearby, spectacular Mayan archeological sites. We also did 3-day side trips to the nearby cities of Valladolid and Campeche. Everywhere we went, everyone we met was unfailingly friendly, courteous and helpful. People back home could take a lesson from these wonderful people. This was a terrific choice for a long-term stay. It was quiet and peaceful and we got to feel like we were part of a community. Yet, we were only a few short kilometers from any social or cultural activities we might desire. If you are looking for a high-energy vacation surrounded by tourists like yourself, go to Cancun. If you want a beautiful and relaxed setting that is much closer to the "real" Mexico then this is the place for you."

  • Wonderful Colonial in Downtown

"My wife and I stayed at Casa de Mosaicos from October 29 through November 5, 2016. We loved every minute spent in this beautifully restored colonial home in Merida Centro. This home has gorgeous authentic tile, huge ceilings, bright colors and tasteful decorations throughout. Casa de Mosaicos retains its original colonial feel with large, wooden doors throughout. The home is wide open and spacious, lending to a feeling of lightness and freedom! One enters the home into a large, beautiful Fourier flanked by a spacious living room area (complete with cable TV!). Beyond is a large dining area, and beyond that a spacious kitchen with all the modern amenities. The enormous master bedroom is accessed via either the living room or dining area. It has a nice en suite with a huge shower. Leading outside from the dining area is a cozy, enclosed patio with a beautiful blue dipping pool. Off this patio is another living area with two twin beds and another en suite bathroom with a huge bathtub! A narrow set of stairs leads up from the patio to a spacious deck area. All the rooms have their own separate air-conditioning units which made things comfortable. Internet worked great too. Casa de Mosaicos is perfectly located on Calle 55 in downtown Merida. Parks (Santa Ana, Santa Lucia), restaurants (Chaya and Aguayo), shopping, history and culture are mere steps away. The beautiful Plaza de la Independencia, flanked by the Catedral de Merida, Palacio de Gobierno and Palacio Municipal, are a few short blocks away. It’s so convenient to experience all Merida has to offer. The owner, Jane, is so responsive, gracious and personable. And we knew that Andrea, the property manager, was always available should we need anything whatsoever. We truly loved everything about our stay at Casa de Mosaicos, and highly recommend it for anyone seeking an authentic, peaceful refuge in the middle of historic Merida!"

  • Loved it!

"We had a great stay. 3 nights in mid-July. The city gets hot/humid that time of year, but you can still stay cool in the house! Even though pool is small and shallow, it managed to stay refreshing throughout the day and night. Overall great style, very clean, awesome laundry. Couple of things to note: - Gentleman who let us in when we arrived mentioned internet would be down for 12-24 hours. It never came back the whole time we were there. There are plenty of travel books available in the house, so we weren't totally in the dark, but the location isn't easy walking-distance any internet cafes (as far as our disconnected research could find), so if you're planning on doing work while travelling, that might be problem here. Or maybe it was a one-time thing. :) - Location is great if you have a car. All of our research for exploring Merida pointed us north quite a ways, so I don't recommend this house if you're without a car. We walked it a few times, but the crowded sidewalks, zooming busses, and heat made the walk unpleasant to do over and over. - Friendly neighbor woke us up on a Sunday morning to let us know to move our car due to a weekly street closing for bicycles. He seemed surprised that we weren't warned. Very nice guy! There were a couple other cars parked still on the street that didn't get towed, but I'm happy to not have taken any chances. Check with the owners about the Sunday parking issue to get more clarity. Again, overall very happy, definitely 5 stars."
