  • Wonderful tropical beach getaway

"This is a very clean, lovely spot on the beach. Modern construction with wonderful bedding, well-equipped for cooking, and overall a very new, clean feel. The beach is just a few steps away and we seldom saw anyone else on it; I think in part due to it being the off-season. We stayed in the beginning of December and lucked out in terms of the weather, "los nortes" winds were only in action for one full day while we were there, and also picked up a few afternoons. The ocean was fairly murky, but still beautiful to look at and wade into. The beach has a lot of seaweed, especially after thunderstorms, but that was easy to clear away, revealing an ideal patch of sand for sunning and relaxing. There were also tons of beautiful, large seashells, the most I've ever seen on any beach! Do note: the water in the house is not potable, so you need to bring your own. Also, though the pool was maintained during the time we were there and was deemed clean for swimming, it wasn't quite as clean as we had hoped. Also, we did have to contend with a few large bugs, especially on the first night, but overall the place is pretty sealed up and has screens on all windows and doors, so you can keep the mosquitos and tropical bugs out for the most part. Two towns are driving distance away: Telchac Puerto (enjoyed lunch at Jorgito's on the beach) and Progresso (enjoyed delicious ceviche at Maya Ka). Jean Pierre is the contact for the home while you are there and he is fantastic, very kind and helpful, and always available by phone or text. Overall, this is an excellent secluded getaway for a couple or small group, and we would love to go back next year!"

  • Delightful Stay in a Peaceful Beach Town

"The house was adorable - looked very much like the pictures, and was fun to stay in. Charming Mexican-style decor, and gorgeous tile-work and sinks etc. GREAT deal for a bargain price, especially when split between 5 people. Literally only a 40 foot walk to the ocean, (found the shell of a horseshoe crab on the beach!) Picturesque boats on the sand. There was a cool, cheap and delicious restaurant we could walk down the beach to get to, (Mirimar,) the ocean was clear most days, and the water was warm and swimmable. A few cool fish in the water, flamingos at dawn, and pelicans all day. TECHNOLOGY: In previous reviews, there were some complaints about the internet - apparently we were the first people to experience the brand-new internet! It worked great! There was only one day when it was down (and it was down for the neighbors, too, so looks like a service problem). Also, via the local phone company, could send texts when you walked outside about 15 feet from the house, and could receive texts in the house. The owner was lovely - responded quickly to issues, & when we had trouble finding the house, gave us the caretaker's phone number, who sent his son on his motorbike to guide us to the house. BTW, don't rely on GPS! It's not connected to the street that the address says it's on! Very tricky to find! Plenty of pots and pans, lots of water, the house was fairly well supplied. When the coffee maker stopped working, there was a french press back-up that worked wonderfully! Screens on all the windows - nice for opening up the house. (Although mosquitos were unavoidable. Bring or buy citronella candles, bug spray and those spirally bug-things.) There were a couple things that could have been improved, but overall, it didn't dampen our experience in this delightful house. The king-sized mattress needed a couple blankets under the fitted sheet, as you could feel the springs. The other mattresses were very firm, which was great for us, but could be a problem if you like a soft mattress. 2 of the rooms didn't have curtains, which is fine if you're an early riser! We thought the fan didn't work, but it just needs a bit of a push to get it started. Probably the worst thing was that all the downstairs furniture is very uncomfortable. Very lovely and fashionable, but uncomfortable as heck. Pillows helped a little. But this didn't dampen our experience! We had a wonderful time, and would definitely come back if we're in the area again."

  • Perfect hideaway, but be aware that it is isolated, so supplies are needed (or rent a car)

"We spent 4 days in this beautiful house on the edge of the Gulf of Mexico, and it was just what we were looking for in terms of location and facilities. The house was awesome, and the location was visually stunning! We would definitely book it again, and now that we know how very isolated it is, we would prepare differently -- rent a car or stock up with more food and water before we get there because we were at least 5 miles away from town and any stores or restaurant scene, with no way to get there. There were a few problems when we arrived, but the concierge, Jean Pierre, was able to resolve them very quickly and very pleasantly, once we were able to reach him. The problem was the cell phone/internet service. The internet connection came and went, and we often could not get a cell phone signal to call him when we needed his assistance (neither of which is the owner's fault), but as I said, once were able to reach Jean Pierre, he responded immediately and was very accommodating. I'm not sure this is the best beach for families with small children, but for adults looking for a beautiful home with lots of space, peace and quiet, and sheer beauty, this is it! Just be aware and be prepared, and you will, like we did, have an amazing, unforgettable experience at Casa Los Chichos."
