  • Great location on the beach

"We had a great time at Casa Palapa in August 2016. Prior to staying at the property, my biggest reservation was that the owner didn't offer online booking through VRBO's checkout so I wasn't eligible for the "Book with Confidence Guarantee." The pricing seemed competitive for the area, so I felt uneasy about not having the guarantee in this age of scams, but we went forward anyway. Thankfully everything was as pictured and as described with only positive surprises. The home is super clean (the cleaning woman comes every morning but Sunday and spends hours), and the view is amazing! It felt like our own private beach and we did not have any issues with excessive seaweed in August. Snorkeling was great directly in front of the house. The man who takes care of the grounds raked the sand every morning and cut us fresh coconuts to drink from the beautiful grove of coconut trees that surprised us as being the front yard of the house. We didn't see any turtles, but saw tracks in the morning of where some came up to the house overnight. We paid $75 for Pio's wife Luz to cook us dinner the first night. We had 5 adults, and she gave enough food (chicken, cauliflower, rice, veggies, pico and guac for appetizer) for 10 and it was tasty. Unfortunately the fridge didn't feel reliable enough to hold leftovers (I think we lost power one night possibly). My ONLY complaint is really for Mexico in August. It's hot, so the house got very warm and the only place to find relief is in the breezy Palapa (very comfortable there) or the air conditioned upstairs bedrooms. The owner mentioned he is considering putting in a 1st floor A/C unit. If that happens, zero complaints on the house. We may be back some day!"

  • Would stay there again

"We had a wonderful time. We loved that the place was nice and quiet. I think on Thursday and Friday we were about the only ones in the pool. We noticed that the hotel next door was packed and people had to reserve pool space early in the day. We were happy not to do that. Also like all the beds/bath – even though we did not use them this time. Next time we will bring our sons and their girlfriends. It will be great that they will have their own space. We also liked that the grocery store was right across the street and it was so cheap. Found great snorkeling a few hotels down. No need for a car – everything was right there – very convenient. .""

  • Great vacation ever.

"We vacation in Playa del Carmen often, always in diamond hotels and/or all inclusive but this time we decided to take a chance and rent a condo. Well, first of all the location could not been better; the condo was perfect. Two bedrooms two bathrooms washer and dryer and every amenity and detail we could need was available to us. The condo was very clean and very comfortable. In a secured area plus security 24 hrs. The bar in the center of the pool was great, the bartender extremely friendly and courteous. We also had house keeping 3 to 4 times a week; the whole experience was amazing, could not say enough about this place and how incredible our experience was. From now on we will return every year to this same condo, we just love it. Better than five start or any diamond hotel; simple that it felt just like home. LOVE IT !!!!"

  • Amazing stay at La Bahia in Akumal

"We had just an amazing time stay! Really, I can't say we had anything negative to say about the place or our trip. The place was spacious, and had all the amenities we could possibly ask for. We were even able to watch football on Sunday morning! The weather turned out perfect (although we were a bit concerned about hurricane Matthew's path days before leaving). We maybe had ten minutes of rain the whole trip! The staff at La Bahia were just awesome; they were helpful and available for whatever we needed. We were there with a couple who had been to Akumal and stayed at La Bahia before (they stayed in #3 both times), so it was nice having them to guide us around Akumal and show us all the spots. But really it's an easy place to navigate. We were able to rent bikes right there at La Bahia, and they were a perfect way to get around. The staff was always available to put air in the tires or fix any issues we had, which we did not. We did a lot of the touristy things: snorkeled and spent time at Akumal Bay, Coba, Playa Del Carmen, Tulum Ruins, and Ya Kul. Absolutely loved the restaurant La Buena Vida (just a short bike ride or walk from La Bahia), and spent a lot of time there. We had a number of meals there also, all very good! La Lunita, a short ride/walk the other direction was also very, very good. Ya Kul was a phenomenal snorkeling spot, and it's just a short ride away also. But really, snorkeling in front of La Bahia was as good as any place I've been to, lot of coral, fish, and clear water. Half moon bay is just gorgeous and unmatched at sunrise. We were also able to see plenty of turtles in Akumal bay (a mile or so away), and the beach there is the best I've seen, ever. We have been to both Jamaica and the Dominican (Punta Cana), but I would much rather return to Akumal. It's an amazing little pocket of paradise and much more affordable than a resort!"
