  • Absolutely Perfect!

"We have rented this condo for a month, four years in a row. It is absolutely perfect which is why we keep coming back. In fact, it has begun to feel like "home" to us. The condo is huge with plenty of room and every amenity for a large family or three couples traveling together. We hosted a large party this trip (18 people) and had plenty of room for entertaining, seating and serving. The location is ideal - just up the escalinata (stairs) to El Centro (the old Spanish colonial part of town) with its shopping, services, markets and many restaurants from a $2.00 almuerzo (lunch) to an upscale dinner with candles and linen tablecloths. Or walk in the other direction about a block to Parque de la Madre for a jog around the track or just an enjoyable rest under the trees. Another couple of blocks past there is a SuperMaxi (large American style grocery store) and the Cuenca Deportivo soccer stadium. Everything you need is within easy walking distance. You can travel to other parts of town for a $2.00 to $2.50 cab ride. The owner, Carolyn Walker, is great to work with, as is the American couple living in Cuenca that she has assisting her with local needs. We highly recommend Casa Rio for these reasons as well as for the reasons other reviewers have mentioned."

  • Beautiful apt in central location

"Stayed for 11nights as our home base for our trip. It was a total of 7 of us ranging in ages from 9-75. The apartment is spacious and very comfortable. It has beautiful views of the volcano Pichincha. The building is secure with a guard outside at all times. It was so convenient to have a large kitchen, the three bathrooms and washer/dryer for clothes. We were able to have family come over without impeding on everyone. We were able to walk to restaurants and the supermarket was very close by. You could take a taxi to the historic center for approx. $3. Quito is a loud city with car alarms and sirens which was disturbing at night, but that's what you get with such a central location. The renter also helped arrange a driver to pick-up and drop-off from the airport which was very nice. In fact, the driver was so nice and convenient we used him another time during our trip. To make life easier, the owners also have a cell phone to use; all I did was add $5 worth of minutes and that lasted the entire trip. People who visited us at the apartment commented how nice and spacious the apartment is. This apartment is highly recommended for larger groups visiting Quito."

  • A fantastic experience staying in a Andean Villa with breathtaking veiws.

"The 4 Volcanoes Villa was wonderful!!! We stayed (6 of us) for 10 days and never tired of the wonderful, ever changing views of the volcanoes from every vantage point in this open, spacious and Fung Shui home. The best part was the huge indoor fireplaces with a plentiful supply of the best smelling firewood, that we had burning nightly in the month of June. The climate is cool and what a treat to be able to enjoy this as well as the Jacuzzi, filled up and ready to relax in, at your request. The glass floor to ceiling windows and doors can be opened up completely, to give the feel of being totally outdoors. We enjoyed soft comfortable beds, a well equipped kitchen, ample reading material and a huge dining table for the meals we prepared or had cooked for us by the hired cook. The walk into the village is easy and very safe, the bus to Otavalo comes directly in front of the gated entrance for 35 cents. The buses are modern, clean and safe to ride. The Villa is exactly as described in the listing, and is immaculately maintained. A cleaning woman is available if you want or need, during your stay. There is no television (not needed) or music system, so if you want music, bring something portable . We did not get to meet Thomas Ring, who was away at the time of our stay, we were greeted and assisted with all of our needs by Christina, his wife, who was always there on site in their separate home, and 100% helpful. (Things to be aware of that certainly were not negatives but just part of the way of life in Ecuador, be patient with your needs for a HOT shower, this may be inconsistent due to the plumbing (gas and solar power), and toilets do not accept flushing paper.) We stayed during the Inti Raymi Festival of the Sun, and I can still hear the wonderful musical sounds of the panpipes coming from the surrounding Andes mountains villages throughout the evening and into the night, into the villa with the windows open, and see the locals dancing through the narrow streets, and only wish I was still there. This is a truely wonderful home and location."

  • A perfect home base on Santa Cruz!

"My husband and I, along with another couple, stayed four nights at the Torre Mar in late May of 2016. Donna and John were terrific from the first contact through finding us the best way back to the Baltra airport. They even arranged for our driver to stop at some of the attractions in the highlands on our way into Puerto Ayora! We found everything to be as advertised. We loved the rooftop terrace for grilling and dining on fresh local seafood or getting to socialize with some of the other guests in the evenings. The views were fantastic! We loved the central, neighborhood location. It was a short walk to Charles Darwin Avenue, a bakery, the Saturday market, the popular outdoor "restaurant street", and the head of the trail to Tortuga Bay! The truck-taxis are certainly abundant, but we enjoyed walking. The beds were very comfortable, and having separate remote controlled air conditioning for each bedroom was a definite plus. For two families with children, both second floor apartments would be a nice setup. We would definitely go back!"
