  • three days at a lovely apartment in Cuenca, Ecuador

"We would recommend this apartment to anyone who wants to be a bit outside of the central city in a quiet and leafy neighborhood. The unit is very spacious and comfortable. Also, the owner, Rex, is amazingly helpful and a terrific person. He can set you up with guides for various trips you might want to take, and they too are knowledgeable and super-competent. The only trouble we had was with the wireless internet, which stopped working after one day. I assume this was a fixable glitsch in the local service, and should not affect other guests. By the way, note where you are at the apartment, because it is not that easy to find again unless your cabbie knows just where it is."

  • Truly Special

"We stayed for the month of February [4 of us for first two weeks, 6 of us for last two weeks]. The home is spacious, well-appointed and as described on the website. The climate in the Andes is spring-like and the views of the surrounding volcanic landscape are spectacular. Thomas, the owner, is readily available and exceedingly helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our conversations as well as his recommendations for things to see and do. Thomas is also a wealth of knowledge about Ecuadorian shamanism, wellness and spiritual healing....... Take him up on his offer to enjoy a visit with a local shaman. Yolanda and Antonio are exceptional caretakers of the property and will assist with most anything including laundry, meals [...try the outside pizza oven] and maintenance of the outside hot tub. The town of San Pablo, with small shops and a daily market, is a short walk away as are great local dining venues such as Hacienda Cusin and Cabanas Del Lago. The location of the house allows for numerous day and overnight tour opportunities including Otavalo, Iberra, Cotacachi, Quito, Cotapaxi, Banos and Mindo [just to name a few]. We suggest hiring a driver/guide to fully enjoy your Ecuadorian experience. We highly recommend this outstanding hacienda as your home base in Ecuador......we can't wait to go back."

  • Perfect Spot to Enjoy Cuenca

"Well located with all the amenities and a fantastic view our home for three months was a great pleasure. Being able to cook breakfast and a variety of meals in this well-equipped kitchen has allowed us to enjoy our stay in Cuenca. Down the block is the Mercado 10 de Augusto where all sorts of fruit, vegetable, meats, seafood, spices, grains and more are available; even a wide selection of bakeries for breads and pastries. We went to this market often to access fresh provender for our table. The apartment is so comfortable and the view so amazing that some days we didn’t even venture out. Of course the large balcony, as well as the private rooftop terrace allowed being outside without even opening the front door. The apartment is very well furnished and we even had the use of a local cell phone making our stay that much easier. With its central location, only 4 blocks to the main Parque Calderon with both Cathedral Viejo and the Cathedral Nuevo adjoining, providing a wonderful place to watch the activities of this beautiful Spanish Colonial town. The ability to walk easily to most of the places of interest really made Cuenca our home. We could even walk down the back stairs to the river exit at the Rio Tomebamba where the riverside path and a variety of restaurants, bars, cafes and even a few museums were easily available. Our host, Bruce, although not local was very easy to communicate with, by internet or even phone. Our local contact, Ken, who lives in the complex, was available if we had any problems or questions. When the chill days and nights of July were causing us discomfort (of course we traveled to Cuenca to escape the brutal heat of our Los Angeles summer at home) Ken loaned us a heater which helped to alleviate the condition. All in all this was one of the nicest stays we have had using a short-term or vacation rental. We look forward to staying here should we be in Cuenca again."

  • Outstanding Rental in the Heart of Cuenca

"We spent a most wonderful time in Cuenca at Stuart and Patricia’s Pumamaqui apartment. We arrived from the airport by an easy and inexpensive taxi ride and were immediately welcomed by Patricia who has a gorgeous little alpaca shop right beside the apartments. Within minutes, Stuart appeared and gave us a complete rundown of all we would need to know for a great vacation in Cuenca, including not to be missed sights, restaurants, markets etc. There was a gorgeous bowl of fruit to welcome us including a delicious local fruit called granadilla and Ecuadorian bread. The fridge also had some essentials and yummy fresh cheese. We didn’t need to go anywhere to eat that day but did head right next door for a tasty Columbian supper (Moliendo Café) The apartment complex is beautifully constructed in a traditional Ecuadorian style with balconies overlooking an open courtyard--every morning we woke up to a cornucopia of flowering bushes. The apartment has all the modern conveniences including wifi, flat-screen TV, granite countertops and an excellent bed! The location is perfect for walking to everything you want to see. We had an odd experience where the airport temporarily closed down and we were stranded for three additional days. (This was right after the earthquake and the needed construction equipment was not available). Stuart saved the day and worked with us to move upstairs to one of his other apartments as ours was booked. That too was most comfortable. And then the piece de resistance: we couldn’t find out when the airport was going to open again and Stuart went above and beyond to determine this for us. He picked us up early on the third morning to drive us to the airport to make sure we got on a plane. All was well--we were the second plane out! This was a fantastic place to vacation and we would return in a heartbeat. Thanks very much for a great experience. Hope we see you and your family in Miami."
